3.37 Musselburgh – SPARTAN ARROW (2pt win – 9/4 bet365, 2/1 William Hill)
SPARTAN ARROW finished well beaten in a 5f handicap at Newcastle in February on his debut for Archie Watson but his prominent running style proved better suited to Wolverhampton next time where he scored narrowly at 5-1. The five-year-old recorded a good time in the process and raced on the slowest part of the track from stall 1. He hasn’t had many opportunities over 5f on turf, recording form figures of 1013 (2-4), with the ‘duck egg’ excusable as he was badly hampered in a field of 18 runners at York. Like most progeny of Sioux Nation, he seems happiest in small fields, with his Wolverhampton win taking his record in fields of nine or fewer runners to 111 (3-3).
