There’s plenty of early pace in this 5f handicap and it’s hard to escape the conclusion that the race will be set up for a closer. Unavailable (stall 1) received the comment “led soon after start” when fourth over course and distance last time, Mick’s Spirit (stall 3) was described as “led” when also fourth over track and trip last time, while Recon Mission (stall 5), “led, disputed lead over 2f out”, and Ecclesiastical (stall 6), “prominent on inner, led narrowly inside final furlong”, can also put pace to the race. Both Unavailable and Mick’s Spirit set the race up for COOLAGH MAGIC when fourth in their respective races last time out and Anthony Carson’s veteran again looks the one to side with. He’s a 15-race maiden on turf but has a good strike-rate on the all-weather (nine winners from 37 starts) including form figures at Lingfield of 21102023111 (5-11), improving to 11 (2-2) over today’s 5f trip.
