In true Mark Johnston style, AUSTRIAN SCHOOL (Musselburgh, 3.35) was kept busy last summer, running 11 times and he was arguably unfortunate not to finish an industrious campaign with more than two victories as he was also beaten small margins on a number of occasions.
Connections clearly feel Austrian School may prove better than a handicapper this season as they have taken the precaution of entering him in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup at York next month and he looks to have all the credentials to run a huge race this afternoon.
The son of Teofilo has won on both of his seasonal reappearances to date, stays the trip well and will find the ground to his liking with the only seeming negative a wide draw in stall 14.

CAPTAIN COLBY (Musselburgh, 3.00) could strip fitter for his recent outing, his first since a wind operation, and could prove the answer for a yard which do well in this sphere. The selection was a good winner of a conditions race over course and distance last October (race worked out well) and could be primed to strike.
Captain Colby 1/2pt ew @ 12-1
Course specialist Royal Brave, who didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs on his comeback when a couple of positions in front of Captain Colby, is also worth a small bet at tidy odds as he too is entitled to improve a good deal for his comeback and his track record is terrific.
Royal Brave 1/2pt ew @ 12-1
Given his profile, it is unlikely there will be a wholesale gamble on the seven-year-old as most punters will feel any Dan Skelton cast-off is one to take on, especially when they head the handicap. However, he will appreciate a tight two miles on good ground and wasn't far behind subsequent Scottish Champion Hurdle runner-up Dino Velvet in a strong time at Stratford.
Red Tornado 1pt ew @ 11-1
The veteran hasn’t seen much racing since a decent spell last summer that saw him take the City Of Perth Gold Cup and then finish a highly respectable second in a valuable Uttoxeter Listed handicap.
The return to action at Ludlow was muted and he made a couple of bad mistakes, but he’ll be straighter for the experience and despite the ageing legs, the three-time track winner can run a big race at a price.
Henllan Harri 1pt ew
Recently sold for 12,000gns, the six-year-old ran for new connections over the minimum trip at Sunday’s venue 18 days ago and was beaten just half a length - possibly unlucky when short of racing room late on. He now returns to his winning trip, fancied to end the long losing run.
