Placed in two Listed races at Newmarket at the beginning of the season, WHIP CRACKER could then only finish 14th in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, but since that outing the Richard Hughes-trained raider has been off the track. During that time he’s been gelded, so it’s fascinating to see how he gets on here off a mark of 99. He steps back up to 1m 2f for this contest which is a huge bonus as he showed at Newmarket that ten furlongs could be his trip, while the booking of Ryan Moore is also very eye-catching.

3:35pm Ayr – Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Handicap
Jim Goldie’s AMERICAN AFFAIR absolutely roared him last weekend to claim victory in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster and if he can emulate that run here then it’s hard to not see him land a big-race sprint double. He’s been handed a 5lbs penalty for that success, but he looked a potential Group sprinter that day as he scythed through the field to take the prize on the line. Stepping up to six furlongs here should see him improve even further and providing he doesn’t meet any traffic problems then he should prove far too good for his rivals here.
