1.30 Cheltenham – BLOOD DESTINY (3pt win – 2/1 Bet365, 15/8 generally) + JUPITER DU GITE (0.5pt E/W – 33/1 generally)

I have long been a fan of BLOOD DESTINY, and he has done nothing but impress me in two starts in Ireland. At Auteuil, he clocked a 20-length faster circuit time than Lossiemouth, who ran in the following race, and he was given far too much to do from the rear of the field when second there. He has since proved that form all wrong, although the winner, Bo Zenith, has now got into gear and given it a good boost. The third from his French run beat St Donats next time, who subsequently won twice. On debut, he battered Sir Allen, who is rated 127 and since twice a subsequent winner and only beaten seven lengths in the Boodles Handicap. At Fairyhouse, he clocked excellent sectionals in places when winning unchallenged under hand and heels from subsequent Adonis winner Nusret and Boodles Handicap winner Jazzy Matty. That form might not be one to take literally, but he couldn’t have been more impressive and arrives here a fresh horse with bundles of improvement to come against two mares for which they have a poor record.

It wasn’t JUPITER DU GITE‘s true running here on trials day, and his Newbury victory left a deep impression. He won’t go without a small cover bet.

2.10 Cheltenham – SHARJAH (1.5pt E/W five places – 12/1 Bet365, Unibet + Ladbrokes) *Already Advised*

My strongest handicap fancy of the week comes in the form of SHARJAH, should he run in the County Hurdle next Friday. He makes stacks of appeal, having been left on his Irish handicap rating of 155, especially now dropping into a handicap for the first time since winning the Galway Hurdle in 2018. He has finished inside the first three on his last ten starts – nine of which have come in Grade 1 company, including two runner-up efforts in the Champion Hurdle. The ground has always been key to Sharjah, and he will surely get his favoured quick surface on the final day. His good ground record reads 2126111 since November 2018, and all seven of those outings have come in Grade 1 company. Willie Mullins did this similarly with Arctic Fire in 2017, who finished runner-up in a Champion Hurdle the previous year before landing this race off 158. Sharjah was undone by the dawdling pace and heavy ground at Gowren Park last time when worthy of an upgrade. Still, this big field, strong pace and good ground are exactly what he wants to rid the hoodoo of the Bridesmaid tag, and he can finally claim his Cheltenham Festival victory. The better the ground, the better his chances, but even if it’s soft, he is the class act in a poor field.

2.50 Cheltenham – CORBETTS CROSS (1pt win – 4/1 Bet365 + William Hill, 7/2 generally)

CORBETTS CROSS could have had multiple options this week, but connections opted for the Albert Bartlett, his original entry and that must be seen as a sign of confidence. Two-mile speed is imperative to win this contest, and he showed just that on his first start for Emmet Mullins when landing a Grade 2 2m contest at Navan over very useful Novice Found A Fifty on yielding ground. He is another that will appreciate drying ground but has won on heavy over 3m, and he looks a huge improver. JP McManus purchased him not long ago, and this six-year-old is going places. He looks like the one to be on for this contest.

3.30 Cheltenham – GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (1pt win – 15/8 generally)

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS has looked out of the ordinary, and while his stamina wasn’t entirely proven at Leopardstown, he took an age to pull up. His speed will be a big asset here against mainly sloggers, and nothing has been able to get anywhere near him since 2021. He would have won the Turners by a street last year and has barely put a foot wrong. He is the right price, but he is the real deal and impressed me at the DRF. Plenty of others have claims, but I am sticking with Galopin Des Champs.

4.50 Cheltenham – IMPERVIOUS (2pt win – 9/4 Bet365, 2/1 generally)

Allegorie De Vassy looks right out of the top draw, but she jumps violently right, and I have to take her on with IMPERVIOUS, who has improved significantly for the switch to fences. The runner-up from her Grade 3 Punchestown victory against the boys recently boosted the form, and she holds the aces with her course form in the Mares Novice Hurdle last term. She was too free as a hurdler, but fences seem to have relaxed her, and she has a bright turn of foot. It would be disappointing if she couldn’t get the job done here.

5.30 Cheltenham – COOL SURVIVOR (1pt E/W – 11/2 generally) + MIGHT I (1pt E/W – 10/1 generally)

COOL SURVIVOR fits all the stats and trends for this contest and wouldn’t be out of place running in an Albert Bartlett, but 3m is probably not his trip. He was a big eye-catcher at the DRF when four lengths behind Ballymore hope Good Land over 2m6f and a true test of stamina the time before on deep ground at Cork found out his stamina for three miles. The drop from Grade 1 company into this handicap off 140 is a positive, as is the likely strong pace and shorter trip. Never underestimate a Gigginstown horse in this contest.

MIGHT I has the back class to really play a strong hand in this. He bounced back to form with an excellent second here 48 days ago. He came very good last spring when a clear second in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices Hurdle at Aintree, finding only the ill-fated Three Stripe Life too good, but he stayed on powerfully. He kept the warmest of company as a Novice last season and is surely deserving of a victory. He makes plenty of appeal off of top weight in this 0-145 contest.
