2.20 Lingfield – LEQUINTO (1.5pt win – 8/1 Bet365, 13/2 generally)

LEQUINTO was a big eye-catcher here behind Annaf in a hot Class 2 event when denied a clear run up the rail over six furlongs, and he now looks ready to strike eased a further pound allowing him to sneak into this Class 4 0-85. The step back up in trip should hold no fears for us backers as he has won over 1m and 6f, and this middle trip is right up his street. He is yet to win here, but he has run well on multiple occasions, including narrow defeats, and this is a drop back into Class 4 company for the first time since scoring at Wolverhampton in December 2021. He is drawn well in stall six and has strong claims.

3.05 Kelso – ELVIS MAIL (1pt win – 11/4 William Hill, 5/2 generally)

ELVIS MAIL is 3-8 at this venue, and he has caught the eye the last twice travelling ominously well through his contests but failing to deliver at the finish. There’s a good chance that he just found those big-field scenarios too competitive, but returning here in a small field looks like the ideal task. Four of his six wins have come with seven or fewer runners, and these cheek-pieces could bring out further improvement. Trainer Nick Alexander, with horses priced shorter than 5/1, has a record of 121125 since October when fitting this headgear, so he looks worth chancing.

3.35 Kelso – WEST CORK (1.5pt win – 3/1 William Hill, 11/4 generally)

It’s not often you see the Skelton’s in this neck of the woods. In fact, this is the first time this season, and their 19% strike rate suggests they are not to be ignored. Chasing hasn’t gone to plan for WEST CORK, but he is still a class act on his day, and this is a welcome return to hurdles. He is fairly treated on the balance of his form, and connections are surely just looking to get him back on track, and this is excellent placing. He takes on a ten-year-old favourite who is hard to win with, and this better ground will surely see him come unstuck (followed him off a cliff previously), while Barrichello was no match for the selection in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. This is a good spot, and West Cork is a favourable price.
