Daryl Carter’s Best Bets (Friday, May 13th)

Dary; Carters Tips

Top tipster Daryl Carter bids to continue his terrific form with a quintet of selections across the Friday cards at York and Hamilton. Check out his thoughts below, with all tips available to back via bet365, and their new customer offer of Bet £10, Get £50 In Free Bets.

Odds correct at time of publishing.

GIRL ON FILM – 2.25 York (1pt each-way, 8/1 general (4 places Bet365, William Hill, BetVictor, Betfred))

A chance is taken with GIRL ON FILM, who makes her seasonal return to action in what looks like a winnable race. Her two runs last term have worked out well. Her debut saw the third go on to be narrowly touched off by Perfect News at Carlisle before winning a Group 2 at Del Mar.

She was far better than the bare result at the same Newmarket venue when beaten five lengths by Hello You in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes, which had the 1,000 Guineas winner in second. That race has produced plenty of winners, including a Group 1 placed filly, but it paid to be on the pace that day, and her hold up position at the rear of the field did not benefit her.

She went off 7/1 for that contest and today’s race is far weaker on paper. She should be able to play a strong hand in proceedings here dropped in grade, and the step up to 1m is certainly a positive.

ROGUE BEAR – 3.00 York (1pt win, 3/1 bet365, Coral, BoyleSports, Betfred, Ladbrokes)

This is one of those contests where you can make cases for the likes of Cockalorum and What’s The Story, but they are all vulnerable to an improver, and that could be ROGUE BEAR, who has been knocking on the door in two starts this season and should relish this step up in distance.

His latest run behind Modern News has seen that one go in at Listed Level, and there is little doubting the ability of Migration. Isla Kai should have boosted that form at York yesterday? In the hope that the step up in trip should bring about further improvement, he gets the vote.

SPEYCASTER – 4.10 York (1pt each-way, 10/1 Paddy, Betfair, Coral, Betway)

The two Godolphin horses at the top of the market could prove very tough to beat, with Wild Crusade likely to prove the best of that pair. The one that’s been overlooked is SPEYCASTER, who caught the eye running on from the rear of the field at Nottingham on seasonal return – shaping as though he wants another step up in distance.

The fifth has won since. The winner was narrowly touched off next time off 5lbs higher, and there’s a little bit of depth to that form. He was a ready winner at Chelmsford in November over Deauville Legend, who has since bolted up and is now rated 89 – and there’s depth to that subsequent form also.

This mark of 82 is clearly within reach for the selection, and the step up to 1m4f for the first time (bred for it) could see him improve significantly. He should have little trouble reversing the form with Al Qareem, so an each-way chance is taken.

FARHAN – 7.20 Hamilton (2pt win, 9/4 William Hill, Betfair, Paddy Power)

This is an excellent opportunity for last year’s Old Rowley Cup runner-up FARHAN who is entitled to take a good step forward for his seasonal return on the all-weather. He was highly progressive last season in much stronger races than today’s, and it was encouraging to see him run so well on the all-weather when he has a 0-4 record.

The switch back to turf and under a useful seven pounds claimer, he is effectively 1lb lower than his November Handicap win at Doncaster. His record on soft ground reads 11 (both in good style) and he looks primed for a career-best effort.

HYPERFOCUS – 7.55 Hamilton (1pt win, 9/2 Sky Bet, William Hill, 888sport)

Top weight HYPERFOCUS gave the firm impression that he is about to return to form when showing plenty of early dash at Redcar on return from a 324-day break, and he now sits on a career-low handicap mark and takes a drop into Class 4 company for the first time since 2018 (2nd off 87).

The return to the soft ground for which his form figures read 71623290211 is a positive. Looking at those figures when running outside of class 2 company, they read 11. He looks worth siding with here.
