1.50 Ayr – Star Of Midnight (0.5pts e/w – 40/1 Hills, 33/1 generally)

A few to consider here, but STAR OF MIDNIGHT was better than the bare result of his duck egg zero next to his name at Thirsk after running extremely green in the early part of the race and not being ridden out fully when running onto the heels of the leading pack. There’s a good chance he will have learned a great deal from that outing. He was fairly tough to pull up after the race, and he is bred to be useful, being a half-brother to George Bowen as well as multiple other winners. In a wide-open race he has shown enough to play a hand in the finish.

2.25 Ayr – Idoapologise (1pt win – 9/2 Bet365, 4/1 generally)

IDOAPOLOGISE had no chance of getting involved in the finish at Doncaster ten days ago when held up off a sedate gallop but ran on strongly in the closing stages for a never-nearer second. He is well treated and has shaped as though his turn is near, and with his penultimate second to our winning selection Good Earth – who scored in a big York handicap next time – working out well, he could easily have more to offer. He needs a strong pace to aim at, and he is likely to get that today. I am not sold on the form of the three-year-olds in this contest, and there is a bigger effort in the selection.

2.25 Ayr – Global Humor (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 Hills, 14/1 generally)

The cheek-pieces worn for GLOBAL HUMOR‘s last four wins remain off, but he has scored four times previously without any headgear, and he may well be worth chancing on this drop back into a class 6 for the first time since scoring at Hamilton in May. He has contested class 4 company in four starts this term and has dropped down the handicap and squeezes into this 0-65. He worryingly refused to race on his penultimate start here, but other than that, his record at this Ayr venue sees form figures of 06122212 – the zero came on soft ground, and the sixth came in a highly competitive seven-furlong event when beaten four lengths by the winner Northern Express. Outside of class 4 company, his record reads 01222112 in the last 12 months, and he is handicapped to have a big say. He travelled strongly at Hamilton last time from the rear of the field without being able to get involved, but it was a step back in the right direction, and jockey Sean Kirrane has a 30% strike rate for this yard and claims a further three off of his back, and his trainer won this last year as well as in 2017 (Goldie has three entries).

6.05 Windsor – Minhaaj (1pt win – 11/2 generally)

MINHAAJ took a step back in the right direction at Yarmouth 17 days ago, and with the cheek-pieces switched out for the visor, he could be about to cash in on this falling handicap mark now down in grade into a class 6 for just the second time in his career. His optimum trip is five furlongs, so his six furlongs efforts are best forgiven, and his latest run was his first attempt back over five since a narrow Ascot defeat in class 4 off of 12lbs higher. He looks the way to go here in a wide-open race.

7.05 Windsor – Lequinto (1pt win – 4/1 generally)

LEQUINTO appreciated the drop back to six furlongs for the first time when a ready winner here in a good time figure 28 days ago, and there looks to be little reason to oppose him this time around. He had recorded some useful time figures and early sectionals on the AW in his previous outings over further, and he is in the form of his life. A repeat of his latest run on a time-figure basis would see him win this.).
