Daryl Carter’s Best Bets (Monday, May 9th)

Dary; Carters Tips

Our top tipster Daryl Carter kicks off the week with a couple of big price selections on the all-weather from Wolverhampton. Read his thoughts below alongside Bet365‘s new customer offer of Bet £10, Get £50 In Free Bets.

Odds correct at time of publishing.

2.40 Wolverhampton –Pop Dancer (1pt each-way – 33/1, Betfair & Paddy Power, 25/1 generally)

It may pay to take a chance on POP DANCER, who was better than the bare result at Epsom on his seasonal return when denied a clear run and who didn’t look entirely happy on the undulating track. He caught the eye, finishing with a flurry despite being knocked around by one or two rivals and that effort suggested a return to form was imminent.

He takes a big drop in grade today into a 0-70 Class 5 race from a 0-90 Class 3, and he is entitled to improve on the back of that effort which came after 187 days off the track. He ran a blinder here on his last visit (late 2020) when rated 85 in a 0-105 contest, and he has dropped down the handicap to a career-low handicap mark. This is just his second outing in a Class 5 event (first on the AW), and his other can be forgiven when not taking to the cheek-pieces. He is drawn fairly in stall five, and he could easily get back on the up in a wide-open contest.

3.40 Wolverhampton –Robasta (1pt win – 11/1)

ROBASTA is fitted with the first time tongue-tie on reappearance and makes his stable debut for new connections who have an 18% strike rate when bringing horses to the AW after 100 days or more off the track. David Loughnane has also booked Laura Pearson for the ride, and the pair have a 19% strike rate on the tapeta surface.

Robasta was due to run in March, so it’s highly likely he has been fit and ready to go for some time. Today’s contest represents a big drop in grade from a Class 2 at Newmarket to this Class 4, and he has been gelded, which should bring about further improvement. He has some extremely strong two-year-old form in the context of today’s race, which looks there for the taking, and he is open to improvement and unexposed at today’s 7f trip. He looks worth rolling the dice with.
