Daryl Carter’s Best Bets (Saturday, 16th July)

Daryl Carter, GG Tipster

Top tipster Daryl Carter has four selections, including two confident two-point tips, on Saturday, coming from the meetings at Newmarket and Chester. Check out his thoughts below, alongside bet365, who are offering £50 In Free Bets to new customers, when you sign-up and bet £10.

Odds correct at time of publishing.

2.51 Newmarket – Bass Player (1pt win – 7/2 Bet365, Hills, 888)

Koy Koy is the rightful favourite here and looks on a workable handicap mark, but he needs to prove his stamina for this 1m trip after shaping like a non-stayer at Ascot when readily passed inside the final furlong. Austrian Theory won well at Hamilton, but he hasn’t been in love with the undulations of Newmarket previously, so this could go to BASS PLAYER, who took his form to a new level in defeat when staying on fifth in the Group 3 Criterion Stakes. He shaped as though the step up in trip to 1m would really suit, and he makes his first start in handicap company, so he gets the vote with the promise of more to come after just three outings.

3.22 Newmarket – Viola (1pts win – 5/1 Hills, 9/2 generally)

I am not convinced about the favourite Eternal Pearl, who was entitled to win as she liked at odds of 2/7f at Kempton and has recorded RPRs of 87 and 88 in her last two outings. Jim Crowley ditches Mukaddamah in favour of heading to Newbury, and she has looked one-paced. No horse would be more deserving of a Listed victory than VIOLA, who did best of those from off the pace on return at Haydock when narrowly denied by Sea La Rosa. She passed horses effortlessly for a career-best performance there, and she is unexposed on turf with form figures reading 221 outside of Novice or Maidan company, and it shouldn’t be easily forgotten that her victory saw her give the above-mentioned Sea Las Rosa 12lbs. There’s more to come from her on turf.

Ric And Mary Hambro Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares)

4.55 Chester – Chairman (2pts win – 3/1 Bet365, 5/2 generally)

CHAIRMAN did remarkably well at Sandown from stall 15 and deserves to have his effort upgraded significantly. He covered plenty of ground out wide before coming into the home straight and running on strongly under a mainly hand and heels ride. He didn’t get the opportunity to quicken when smothered by horses, but it was an eye-catching effort and one that suggests he has a bigger performance in him. His promising racing style from a good draw in stall three at this track should see him go very well, and he can prove he is ahead of the handicapper. His form at Bath has worked out well and continues improving with each start. PostImpressionist is a horse I like a lot, but he takes a while to get going, and it could be all over by the time he picks up on this sharp track. Highland Premier is the biggest danger.

5.07 Newmarket – Cabinet Of Clowns (2pts win – 9/4 generally)

This will be fought out between Auditor and CABINET OF CLOWNS, and it’s the latter that gains the vote after catching the eye at Sandown when denied a clear run behind the progressive Golden Voice. The track is a slight concern, but he should prove ahead of this handicap mark of 79; therefore, in receipt of 14lbs from Auditor, he should take some stopping.
