Published: 2:18pm – 28th July (Odds correct at time of posting, where available)

2.10 Goodwood – Cemhaan (1pt win – 15/2 generally)

I thought the drop to 1m4f was against CEMHAAN at Ascot, but he ran with extreme credit despite pulling for his head for nearly 1m of the contest. He made his move but was denied a clear run and finished with running left on the heels of the leading pack suggesting a step back up in distance would be of great benefit.

He gets that today, and he has a highly progressive profile with his form stacking up immensely well. He had Soapy Stevens and Valley Forge in behind him when dotting up at Newmarket, and he has bounced back from a lesser effort previously.

Coral Summer Handicap

2.25 Newmarket – Rose Of Kildare (2pts win – 2/1 Sky Bet, BetVictor)

ROSE OF KILDARE sets a lofty standard for these unexposed types to aim at, and she doesn’t have a horse with the ability of Eternal Pearl in here to run here down, so with a soft lead, she should take plenty of catching at a track that sees her to her best.

She has recorded form figures of 2 and 1 on this July track, and its interesting connections persisted with her after such an absence. She has plenty more to offer yet, and this may be her easiest task for quite some time. She was only beaten seven lengths in a Juddmonte in 2020, and now she has proven she retains her ability; she can get back to winning ways today at a trip she is unexposed at.

British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes (Listed Race)

3.20 Goodwood – Chil Chil (2pts each-way – 14/1 Bet365, 12/1 generally (6 places, 8 with Sky)

CHIL CHIL is a horse to catch a second time after an absence with form figures of 9,1,1,1 and 2, and the nine came last year in the Group 1 July Cup when beaten four lengths when doing well from the rear of the field. She went on to run in the Group 1 Nunthorpe, where she finished fifth, beaten two lengths by Winter Power before a narrow 3/4 lengths defeat to Emaraaty Anna in the Group 1 Sprint Cup.

She was aimed at this race last year before the ground turned soft, but she has her favoured fast ground today, and on good or better ground outside of Group 1 company, her over six furlongs reads 812111. She is a group horse in a handicap here, and Harry Davies’ claim of five pounds lifts the burden of top weight, meaning she carries 9st7.

The weights are fairly compressed, and she is arriving off an excellent return run in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes when beaten just three lengths by Minzaal. She surely must go close from a favourable draw in stall 11, and this course is highly likely to suit her speedy nature. She makes huge appeal back in a handicap for the first time since bolting up at Newmarket last term.

Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap)

4.05 Newmarket – Thunder Legend (1pt win – 2/1 generally)

THUNDER LEGEND has been frustrating to back but now gets a tongue-tie to accompany the cheek-pieces and returns to Newmarket, where he was so eye-catching on debut.

His form is strong from this term, and he faces two horses returning from long absences and two that are out of form. This is the ideal opportunity to score, and the booking of William Buick is very interestin

Harry Allport Is Getting Married Handicap

4.30 Goodwood – Ajero (2.5pts each way 5 places – 7/1 generally)

AJERO broke my heart at Ascot, but his jockey did far too much too soon, and this is much, much easier, and Jim Crowley has been booked for this drop in grade into a Class 3 race. He did best of those on the scorching pace at Ascot, and the form has been advertised well by the third going close at Newmarket next time, the fourth going close at York and here at Goodwood this week. He makes plenty of appeal with his form working out extremely strongly (Sandown second winner now rated 114), so a 2lbs rise should not hinder his chances from a good draw in stall four with a couple of confirmed front runners likely to give him a good lead. His time is now!
