13:20 Wolverhampton – Cariad Angel (1.5pt win – 3/1 Bet365, 11/4 generally)
CARIAD ANGEL is low mileage, unexposed, and bred to be pretty useful for a yard that has had plenty of success with its sprinters in the last 18 months. She is Karl Burke’s only runner on the card, and the three-year-old receives a healthy 16 lbs weight-for-age allowance and arrives on the back of an excellent all-the-way win over the minimum trip of five furlongs at this venue last time. There are lots to like about her chances, with six furlongs surely set to suit on the evidence of her Novice form, and she is drawn well for an attacking ride. She has the ability to rate higher than many of these exposed rivals. Three-year-olds have a significant advantage at this time of year, and she looks progressive.

6.00 Kempton – Strike Alliance (1pt win – 7/1 generally)
Trainer Andrew Balding has a 23% strike rate with handicap debutants, and the assessor looks to have let STRIKE ALLIANCE in lightly off an opening rating of 58 on the evidence of his three qualifying runs. He has been given educational rides the last twice when not knocked about and today’s step up in trip is sure to be beneficial. He is drawn well in stall four, and the first time hood looks like a good move. It’s always interesting with this yard to see the debut jockey back on board, and he looks worth taking a small chance with.

7.30 Kempton – Kiwano (1pt win – 5/1 Bet365, 9/2 Will Hill/Tote)
Annaf is respected greatly here, but he has an excellent record fresh and hung right when last racing at this venue. It’s splitting hairs, but he could be better going left-handed and facing a rival in KIWANO, who is now 2-2 at this venue and one that improved significantly for a gelding operation and a 308-day break. He is entitled to come on a good deal for his latest romp, which recorded a good time. He wasn’t disgraced over seven furlongs behind some useful rivals in Listed company back in March when fading at the finish. He is bred to be very useful, and he has further improvement in him over this six-furlong trip.
