2.45 Chelmsford – AMERICAN BELLE (1pt win – 5/2 generally)

It’s surely only a matter of time before AMERICAN BELLE sheds her maiden tag, and this looks like a good opportunity on her seasonal return. Trainer James Fanshawe doesn’t have the best record with horses returning from 100 days or more off the track, but this three-year-old chased home a useful type here when last seen in November in good time and gets the fitting of the tongue tie for which Fanshawe has a 27% strike rate. The booking of Oisin Orr is a positive one, given his 27% strike rate at this venue, and this is his sole ride of the day. She looks worth chancing with little worthwhile form on offer from the rest of the field.

3.20 Chelmsford – REVOLUTIONISE (1pt win – 9/4 generally) + ROBJON (1pt win – 20/1 888Sport, 18/1 generally )

REVOLUTIONISE easily has the strongest recent handicapping form in this line up, including when having Barging Through and Secret Strength behind at Lingfield on his penultimate start, and a repeat effort of his latest Wolverhampton second would be good enough here. He is an infrequent winner, having scored just twice in two years, but his Class 4 or below record on the AW over this trip reads 321142, and this looks like a good opportunity for him to bounce back to winning ways.

The other I want to have on side is ROBJON, who starts life out for Eve Johnson Houghton, having been poorly campaigned by Richard Hannon. The addition of the hood for the first time is interesting, and he ran well for a long way on reappearance at Kempton in a far stronger race than this when rated 15lbs higher – he also scored on debut – so catching him first time up could be key. He is clearly well treated on the pick of his form, and the change of scenery could also help. He struggled as a three-year-old over the wrong trip of six furlongs and was too gassy and free at the back end of last season, while I am not entirely convinced he is a fan of Newmarket either. He is worth chancing at the morning odds, having had two good efforts on the AW under his belt.

7.30 Southwell – IN THE GIVING (2pt win @ SP)

IN THE GIVING offered plenty of promise on her stable debut at Kempton under tender handling from Billy Loughnane and is surely well-treated on that evidence. The third has boosted the form, and that was her first run for five months with the instructions seemingly to take it easy on her. A more vigorous ride is expected today with that first run on the AW under her belt, and her trainer has an excellent 27% strike rate with three-year-olds in handicaps at this venue. She is effectively running off of a rating of 65 thanks to the jockey claim, and that’s surely well within her grasp on all known form.
