TOMMY ROCK (5.10 Kempton, 1pt win 10/3)

TOMMY ROCK saddles a 6lb penalty for his win at Wolverhampton on handicap debut but he had enough in hand there to suggest that he can land this competitive Class 5 event. He caught the eye in maiden and novice company last term when given an education rather than a serious race and looks one to climb up the handicap ranks.

He can break slowly away from the stalls and in this big field that could be an issue from stall 3. However, he has the most appealing profile in this race and should get a lead from Feel Good Factor and find enough to overhaul that rival.

AZZURRI (12.35 Southwell, 1.5pts each-way 9/2)

At this time of year it pays to follow trainer Dan Skelton and AZZURI looks to have been given a chance by the handicapper after a poor end to the season, but given three of those five runs came on soft or heavy ground, he is taken to capitalise on this falling handicap mark now back on a sounder surface.

Prior to those runs he ran over 2m6f, weakening after the final flight, and the drop back to 2m looks a good move. He was a winner at Ayr on his last start over 2m on good ground by 9 lengths off a handicap mark of 132 and sits just 2lb higher here.

Early in the season looks a good time to catch him with form figures on good ground in either April, May or June reading 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 9, 2, 1, 2. He is sure to be fit and ready for this assignment after a recent spin on the flat to blow away the cobwebs.

**PRIMO’S COMET (12.45 Musselbrugh, 1pt win 9/4)

This is a trappy heat but PRIMO’S COMET shaped like a return to the winner’s enclosure is imminent at Newcastle last time and he has dropped to an almost career low mark.

His latest effort on turf came back in August at Goodwood over 6f in the Class 2 consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup when finishing fourth off a handicap mark of 75. He was rated as high as 82 and gained that rating over 5f this time last year keeping some warm company in Class 2, 3 and 4 events.

Last season he raced five times over today’s trip of 5f yielding form figures of 3, 5, 2, 4 and 6 in Class 2, 3 and 4 company off marks no less than 75. Today sees him drop into Class 5 Company for just the third time on turf since May 2018 and he can boast form figures of 1, 3 in this class of opposition.

The win came here at Musselburgh in an - runner field off a handicap mark of 73 and makes plenty of appeal now returned to this venue off a mark of 69. The plum draw in stall 5 is a slight concern given he is a hold up horse but with a field size of five there should be plenty of room to manoeuvre in the closing stages. The jockey booking of Kevin Stott takes the eye having only ridden for this trainer on three occasions winning once with a profit of +£6.50.
