2.40 Yarmouth – Aristocratic Lady – 1.5pts wins @10/3
ARISTOCRATIC LADY idled more than anything once hitting the front at Leicester after a 419 day break so there is every reason to think there is more to come from her now race fit. There isn’t much depth to this race and the selections opening handicap mark of 78 looks lenient on her two runs as a three-year-old when racing over 7f. She didn’t quite see out that trip but has plenty of scope to improve now running over 6f and connections look to have found an ideal opening on handicap debut.
3.40 Yarmouth – Poets Dance - 1pt win @ 3/1
Batchelor Boy and POETS DANCE set the form standard and plenty of these have intertwining form lines that suggest they are held by the selection bar the unknown quantity that is Otago, who may not be suited by this drop in trip. The selection has bumped into two progressive horses in her two starts this term and this looks an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways. Her recent run at Windsor relates closely to Batchelor Boy but that one looked to benefit from the early strong pace in his race and may have been flattered by his finishing position. Poets Dance raced freely as she can do on occasions in hers but she wasn’t seen to best effect under fierce restraint when racing in the centre of the track while the winner and the second had the help of the rail. She clocked a very good time behind Electric Ladyland and this is a big drop in grade. She could have more to offer here given the strength of her Novice form providing she can learn to settle and she is worth chancing at the prices.
2.50 Catterick – Intrinsic Bond - 1.5pts e/w @ 7/1
INTRINSIC BOND makes plenty of appeal now racing against his elders after a good effort behind the very progressive Tiger Crusade last time out. That race has the makings of some very strong form going forward and the drop back to 6f looks a good move. He has been granted the plum draw in stall one and he looks on a favourable handicap mark on the balance of the evidence and this trip looks to be his optimum. Most of these runners are exposed and he can make the most of his weight for age allowance here and rates a confident bet.
6.45 Kempton – Quickthorn – 1pt e/w @ 11/2
As I do keep mentioning - this time of year three-year-olds do come into their own in Handicap Company with the allowances they are granted - and given QUICKTHORN receives 12lbs from the older horses he is tough to oppose. A course winner last time out and an eye catcher in his previous run at Newmarket behind Brentford Hope there is every chance that the handicapper has underestimated him with this opening mark of 82. He does take a while to warm to the task but this extra furlong will help his cause as with the strong pace that is on offer he can follow up. Fellow three-year-old Cepheus rates the main danger but the penny looked to have finally dropped in the closing stakes on the selection last time out and an improved showing is highly likely.
