1.50 Newmarket – Al Suhail – 1.5pt win @ 5/1
Plenty of potential in here with the likes of Lord Campari, Magical Morning and Tilsit but none make more appeal than AL SUHAIL who is clear on official ratings and takes a drop in grade into Listed Company. His form is rock solid which ever way you try to look at it and that includes a good second to Military March on the Rowley mile course on soft ground so it wont be a problem should conditions deteriorate.
They race on the July course here but this track is just as undulating as the early season venue and course form translates well here. He needs to be forgiven his reappearance run in the 2,000 Guineas but he shaped like something went a miss there when jumping part of the track mid race causing the jockey to look down as he lost his action. He is worth chancing at the prices to put that effort right here and continue on his upward curve. The favourite has looked good and that was backed up by the clock but this is a very different test to the flat Newbury track he raced on last time and he does need to improve 17lbs on the figures to beat the selection if he brings his two-year-old form to the table here.
2.40 York – Dubai Love – 1pt win @ 5/1
UAE 1,000 Guineas winner DUBAI LOVE ran a cracking race at Royal Ascot under top weight on unsuitable ground and she is open to plenty of improvement over this trip and this looks a good opportunity on the balance. There are plenty of potential improvers in here but Pocket Square might just need this after a 260 day absence which leaves Dubai Love and Rose Of Kildare as the top rated horses in the field and given the favourite only holds a rating of 89 she will need to improve dramatically to reach the level those two have shown. Dubai Love will appreciate this quicker surface and she is experienced for a race of this nature while Rose Of Kildare is turned out quickly after contesting a tough race at Epsom on Saturday and this might just come too quickly for her.
3.35 Newmarket – Volatile Analyst – 1pt e/w @14/1
I think everybody including the bookmaker’s knows how well-handicapped Dancin Inthestreet is, and that’s likely the reason he has been well found in the market but in a twenty-runner-field with most paying ¼ odds 4 places it’s probably wise to look elsewhere. The 6f trip shouldn’t be too much of an issue for the favourite but it does have to be a slight concern given most of his extremely strong form is over the 5f trip. VOLATILE ANALYST does seem to have been over-looked in the market given he is a winner of two of his three career starts.
His only defeat came second time out in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes behind Golden Horde and Threat. He was only beaten 4 lengths when finishing fourth in that contest and that race has worked out really well. The third (1/2 length in font of the selection) is rated 110, the fifth is rated 105, the sixth is rated 98, the seventh is rated 103, the eighth is rated 107 and finished fourth in the Commonwealth Cup, the ninth is rated 100, the tenth is rated 108, the twelfth is rated 104 and the last place finisher is rated 100. Both of those rivals run in the Group 1 July Cup at this meeting and this one is running in a Class 2 handicap race.
He was laboured on his return but won snugly, likely with a view to this race off the same handicap mark of 102 and although he saddles top weight he could be the Group horse in a handicap and at a double figure price no less. In the last 10 years 7 winners have come from double figure draws 11, 14, 15, 16, 15, 19 and 20 with the selection drawn on the right side of the track in 20 and with this stiff 6f likely to suit well, he offers plenty of value in the race.
