(Tom Marquand/Robert Cowell)

A narrow third in this race 12 months ago, Robert Cowell’s Clarendon House heads into the 2024 renewal on the back of a superb victory over 5f at York. The six-year-old stormed to a one-and-a-quarter length win on the Knavesmire a few weeks ago, but he’s been handed a notable 6lbs rise for that victory. Rated 11lbs higher than last year’s mark, where he failed to land the win, it’s going to be a tough ask off top weight, but he’s lining up in excellent form.

(Clifford Lee/Karl Burke)

Beaten a short head in this race 12 months ago, Silky Wilkie is bidding to go one better is time around and is a whopping 8lbs lower. However, Karl Burke’s charge has been struggling for any sort of form in recent times and will need to hope a return to Epsom can bring on some improvement. The five-year-old was last seen finishing fifth at Musselburgh off a mark of 99 and he lines up off that same figure on Saturday, so has work to do.

(Hollie Doyle/Karl Burke)

A hugely consistent sprinter for Karl Burke, who was second to Night On Earth at Epsom in late April, Looking For Lynda is bidding to improve on that effort here. The four-year-old was last seen chasing home Clarendon House at York and he’s only been upped 1lb in the handicap, so is arguably more attractively weighted now to reverse that form, so has to be respected.

(Rossa Ryan/Robert Cowell)

Fifth in the 3YO Dash at Epsom last season, Democracy Dilemma heads into this event in the form of his life as having won well at Chester two starts ago he then was just touched off at Windsor off a 3lbs higher mark. Given another 2lbs rise by the handicapper for that outing, Robert Cowell’s charge will face a stiffer test again, but he’s one that is in great form.

Second at York last time out, Lethal Nymph is one that has been tumbling down the weights in recent outings, so is on a nice mark to strike, while Night On Earth is looking for a big-race double at Epsom this season. The Ian Williams-trained six-year-old beat Looking For Lynda off a mark of 75 back in April and looks to have the potential to score again. Unable to win at Chester and Goodwood on his next two runs he could relish a return to Epsom. Alligator Alley has some decent form in sprint handicaps and has the capabilities of running a big race, while Live In The Moment and Chipstead add more depth to the race.

A real test of speed, the Epsom Dash is a unique contest and Epsom form can often prove crucial and with that in mind the selection is NIGHT ON EARTH. He is much higher in the weights than when he won in April, but he showed blistering speed from the gates and he could well notch up a lead-all-the-way success here. Clarendon House has to be respected at the top of the betting and can chase him home, while Democracy Dilemma can stay on best of the rest to grab third.

  1. Night On Earth
  2. Clarendon House
  3. Democracy Dilemma
