A superb field will line up for the 2025 Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor on Sunday afternoon with some of the top middle distance from the UK lining up for the valuable prize. However, the British could face a big rival from Ireland our in-house tipster Steve Chambers fancies a Henry De Bromhead-trained raider to bag the money with a dominant victory.

PROTEKTORAT
(Harry Skelton/Dan Skelton)
Mightily impressive when winning the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival back in March, Protektorat has failed to kick on from that win and has suffered three defeats since. Last seen finishing a distant six lengths behind Djelo in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon, Dan Skelton’s ten-year-old could be looking to use this race as a springboard to the Ryanair Chase again in March. A class act on his day, Skelton’s veteran will be tough to beat, if at his best, but he’s not been that this season, so is best worth watching.
DJELO
(Charlie Deutsch/Venetia Williams)
Third in the Turners Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, Djelo has continued to go from strength to strength over fences for Venetia Williams. Runner-up in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, the seven-year-old then obliterated the Peterborough Chase field last time out and a repeat of that effort has to see him on the vicinity here. A horse that relishes soft ground, he could be one that is open to more improvement, but it’s going to be hard to replicate that authoritative win and he may have his work cut out in a field with more strength in depth.

PIC D’ORHY
(Harry Cobden/Paul Nicholls)
A facile winner of the 1965 Chase at Ascot last time out, Pic D’Orhy has been mopping up Grade 2 events with ease over the last few seasons for Paul Nicholls. The Ditcheat ten-year-old has often struggled when trying to claim top class glory in Grade 1 company, but has been a real class act below that grade. A hugely consistent performer, he will look to set the early fractions and with his impeccable jumping sure to take others out of their comfort zone then he has to be one of the leading contenders in this event.

REST OF THE FIELD
Lucinda Russell’s Ahoy Senor has found life tough in recent times and having finished third in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree then went on to be pulled up in the Betfair Chase. Now, ten years old, the veteran is one that may find this all happens a bit quickly. One fascinating contender is Henry De Bromhead’s Irish raider Journey With Me, who still has relatively low mileage on the clock. A Fairyhouse Grade 2 winner at the back end of last season, the nine-year-old was completely outclassed by the likes of Fact To File and Galopin Des Champs in the John Durkan at Punchestown, where he finished sixth, but this is a race world’s away from that quality. Le Patron failed to build on a Newbury win when well beaten at Cheltenham last time out, while Indiana Dream is taking a huge step up in class after winning a beginners chase last time out and could struggle. Tommie Beau completes the line-up and was pulled up at Sandown on his last outing in the London National.

VERDICT
A decent field lines up for this event with Protektorat, Pic D’Orhy and Djelo all bringing strong form to the table, but JOURNEY WITH ME is relatively unexposed over fences and he could be one that has that improvement in him to land this prize for Henry De Bromhead. Pic D’Orhy rarely puts in a bad performance and can chase the Irish charge home, while Djelo can complete the 1-2-3.
2025 Fleur De Lys Chase Predicted 1-2-3
- Journey With Me
- Pic D’Orhy
- Djelo
