Following a 16/1 winner and a 20/1 place in the GG Tips Den on Saturday, Kevin O’Malley returns with four bets on a top card at Leopardstown on Sunday afternoon...
On a line through Got Trumped, there is a decent case to be argued that the Surin/Gardens Of Babylon form is a little stronger than that of Sir Erec/Tiger Tap Tap. Obviously, there is a lot of confidence about the market leading pair but at the prices, Gardens Of Babylon will hopefully prove a fruitful each-way venture. Joseph O'Brien’s juvenile beat Surin at Punchestown on New Year’s Eve, before Gordon Elliott’s athletic mare just got the better of her rival on the 12th of January at Fairyhouse. Gardens Of Babylon hurdles well on the whole and has a likeable amount of tactical pace, he’s able to get himself out of trouble and into a challenging position and he does quicken, all things that are useful now he goes left-handed around a sharper Leopardstown. He ran up to an RPR of 138 last time out (Tap Tap & Erec RPR 127 LTO), he’s a little better off with Surin at the weights and I can see him creeping into it with every chance under Barry Geraghty.
We settle upon another green and gold hooped runner in the 1.50pm, where the big, imposing figure of Entoucas is a potential improver for Joseph O’Brien, in an admittedly hot Grade 1. Mark Walsh gave him four sharp cracks after the last here behind Klassical Dream, but it was an educational, promising spin for the youngster otherwise. A son of top sire Network, Entoucas should be a bit sharper for that outing and at double figure odds - or even a tad below - he rates an interesting each way angle into the contest. I will kick myself a bit if Aramon wins, because he is the solid option.
In the 3.00pm, I’m really keen on the chances of Cuneo for Henry de Bromhead and jockey Rachael Blackmore, who gave the horse a peach of a ride to score over the course and distance last time out. A horse sure to make his making in staying chases in the future, Cuneo stays really well, he posted a quick time under these conditions last time out and I don’t think a 7lb rise will be enough to stop him having a big say in the outcome here. Finally, we look to the great Ted Walsh for a winner in the 4.10pm, where his second season chaser Any Second Now looks nicely treated off 142 with regular pilot Mark Walsh getting the leg up. This 7yo spent much of his novice season chasing Footpad around and didn’t seem to enjoy three miles last time out. A trip of 2m5f around here for his third start of the season seems an ideal opportunity for the horse to get a tick in the win column. Speaker Connolly is the elephant in the room, but I think we’ll have the beating of the rest of them.
