Jumps action on "Hump" day comes thick and fast through the afternoon at Ludlow and Ayr, our man Kevin O'Malley has three fancies running at both tracks on Wednesday in the GG Tips Den...
Nicky Richards’s 6yo mare Peter’s Cousin has improved notably well this season and scored in determined fashion at Kelso last time out. She found only Sassy Diva too good here over two miles in November, that form received an excellent boost with that mare going on to land a valuable prize at Leopardstown on Sunday. Peter’s Cousin finds herself in an ordinary enough affair here off an attractive mark of 111. The step back in trip shouldn’t hinder her chances and I reckon she’ll probably go ahead and win again today.
The penalised recent Exeter winner Chambard and potential improver Dorking Boy are the target horses for Ludlow’s 1.40pm Novices’ Hurdle over the minimum trip, but I am keen to take them on with Smarty Wild for Philip Hobbs. The trainer boasts an impressive 24% strike rate here in recent seasons and this 5yo jumped and travelled well when 3rd at Huntingdon last time out, looking as though he is beginning to get the hang of things. He has a bit to find on bare form ratings, but posted a decent speed figure in defeat there, I reckon he’ll build on that and run a respectable race under Tom O'Brien.
Later on in the 4.20pm Hunters Chase over 3m, we have our first bet of the season in this type of race. Queen Olivia has placed in two of three starts at Ludlow and although Road To Rome is hard to oppose, our selection gets heaps of weight here and Lily Pinchin - taking a further 5lb off - has a fair record under rules and does ride well. The 11yo King’s Theatre mare has had a wind op since we last saw her and will hopefully be fit enough to do herself justice. She has relatively few miles on the clock for her age and might just be up to running a big race in this.
