Our resident tipster Kevin O’Malley returns to GG Tips Den duty with well fancied 7/2 and 5/2 Saturday selections over in Naas, where today’s feature action takes place with a very decent eight race card...
Debuchet is a talented horse but clearly hard to win with, he’s not been out since September and I’m very keen on the chances of the Charles Byrnes trained Sky Marshal against the market leader in the 1.10pm maiden hurdle over two miles. This well-built son of Lawman was a decent middle distance horse on the flat for Ed Walker and shaped with promise when 2nd in a slowly run affair at Fairyhouse last time out in late January. The jumping fundamentals were there, but the horse was a bit clumsy and slow under pressure over the last two flights, he seems to be a sound stayer too and the slow pace wouldn’t have suited last time up. The 33/1 winner had first run on the chasing pack and having been tucked up for racing room before two out and given the way he stayed on, I think the runner up will turn out to be much the best horse from this race long term. Davy Russell and Byrnes have a tremendous record when teaming up and his expertise in the saddle can see this interesting 5yo project get off the mark over timber.
Konitho won a tidy maiden hurdle for Joseph O'Brien here last time out and was quickly snapped up by JP McManus. He looks a decent sort, but I was very taken with the turn of foot his stablemate Band Of Outlaws displayed at Limerick on Boxing Day when gunning down a nice chasing type trained by Noel Meade called Future Proof. The 4yo son of Fast Company isn’t the biggest, but he had a lot of work on his hands with a furlong to go and quickened up in the style of a smart hurdler, in a good time too. Konitho may well prove a bit more scopey and progressive, but his stablemate has made the better statement on the track thus far for me and prices in the 5/2 range are acceptable for a bet on the nose.
