The feature flat on Sundays comes at Naas, where our man O'Malley has three interesting fancies...
Dermot Weld has hit the ground running in 2019, scoring with 9 of his 31 runners in the past 14 days. Kiss For A Jewel made a bright start to her career at Galway back in October, chasing home Delphinia - who produced a career best in a Group 3 recently - having had to do more running than the winner, who also had the rail to help, from a wide position. The pair pulled clear of the rest in a good time that day and this daughter of Kingman should probably be odds-on to open her account in what looks a perfectly winnable maiden.
Chessman may well improve for this step up in trip, but otherwise looks a vulnerable favourite on form, while second favourite Rionach also has a bit to prove. King’s Field is just about the most consistent of these on the clock, but there’s no real telling if he’ll be sharp enough first time out back on the turf. At 9/2 this morning and a click or two bigger at the prices than all three mentioned, David Marnane’s Settle For Bay looks the bet. This 5yo spread-eagled the field to land the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last term, which is the best single piece of form in the race here. He is rated 2lb superior to King’s Field on official ratings and 5lb better than the two horses heading the market. Settle For Bay ran well enough on his latest start at Meydan and he can go very well fresh.
This Fozzy Stack trained colt did all bar win on his turf debut here last time out, shooting clear of his 16 rivals in good style, only to be collared late on by a horse carrying a featherweight, rattling down his outside. Empire Line has a good few pounds to find on bare form, but he is consistently good on the clock and I don’t think he’ll disgrace himself in this company.
