GG tipster Kevin O'Malley returns to Tips Den duty on Friday with three interesting selections, all running at different tracks, to kick off the weekend...
William Haggas is in excellent form and his Funny Man could well have a bit up in sleeve from the handicapper. But that hope is based on one run last time out, where he was beaten into 2nd off today’s mark, in a race which produced an ordinary enough time. A more conventional track may help his cause, but I prefer the more steadily progressive profile of Victoriano. Two miles on soft ground stretched his interest last time out, but a return to 1m6f on decent ground today will be much more to his liking.
Once again we are targeting a William Haggas hotpot in a 3yo handicap, a fool’s pursuit perhaps, but such is life. Assimilation is 0/6 now but is generally consistent on the form and speed figures and the drop back to 7f reads well today. The form of his 4th at Haydock just over a month ago has worked out quite well since and although one or two others have more obviously pressing claims, I think the selection should be trading in single figures, so an E/w nibble is the suggested call.
This David O’Meara trained 4yo is yet to win in eight attempts since arriving from France, but he appears to have nestled upon an ordinary enough looking Class 5 contest here. Autretot recorded a Racing Post Rating of 82 over 10f at Redcar last time out, backed up by a solid Topspeed figure of 74. The form of the race is patchy, but the winner, Archie Perkins, remains in excellent form and was wholly unlucky at Beverley the other day. Autretot has been dropped to 77 here and that looks to be an exploitable mark if he handles the tapeta surface tonight.
