Comments:

Faro Angel was second past the post here over 7f last month, but was awarded the race in the stewards room and thus has to carry a 6lb penalty up in trip on different ground here. That is probably the chief reason why this big and imposing Dark Angel colt is trading at 4-5/1 this morning. For my money, he has every chance of beating the odds-on Godolphin jolly, who did shape well enough at Chelmsford on debut, but there’s nothing particularly exciting about the form and he really took his time to get past some ordinary enough horses. Faro Angel looks the part, a strong 2yo and he looks sure to appreciate this step up to a mile under Jamie Spencer. Course experience is rarely a negative and Luca Cumani’s student should run very well indeed. Laafy and Quintada are the other ones to be wary of, along with the aforementioned Global Heat.

Estihdaaf has ran well in both of his starts to date and should be shorter than 13/8 to get off the mark in the 3.35pm maiden stakes. The form of his York debut when just denied by the fast finishing Woven, has been advertised very well since and he lost little in defeat at Newmarket last time out, when perhaps finding the ground a little on the fast side in the closing stages. I think he tries his best, despite beginning to have the cut of a potentially expensive horse to follow. Leicester with a bit of cut in the ground over this 7f distance should be just right and I’m not convinced this is the strongest heat, with Monsieur Noir being the obvious danger.

Over in Punchestown, we’ll go in with Rare Conor again, who should have gotten a lot closer for us last time over 2m. I don’t know why jockey Jonathan Moore didn’t make more use of his this 7yo stamina from the get-go and it wasn’t one of his better rides, but back over 2m4f today hopefully the pair can conjure up a more polished effort. My Sister Sarah looks very skinny at the prices and despite being the likely winner - she does get 12lb from the selection here - there was nothing particularly frightening about her Roscommon bumper win in August, in context of the demands of winning a Punchestown maiden hurdle first time out after a break.
