GG tipster Kevin O’Malley returns to action on Friday night with three fancies over in Dundalk, as their all-weather campaign gets under way...
I would’ve liked Timemakesitfine for this but the horse's new trainer Denis Hogan is 0/156 with his first time out stable switchers, which is a major alarm bell. Jessica Harrington’s Belle Cora also makes some paper appeal, but this filly flatters to deceive under pressure. I think the safest option in the admirably valuable 12,500 Euro claiming maiden race is Mick Halford’s Zaamer, currently trading at around 7/2.
Michael Halford and Ronan Whelan boast a 35.5% (11/31) strike rate when teaming up at Dundalk in recent seasons, which is very impressive. Zaamer is one of the lesser exposed runners in this field, but has acquired useful experience in three starts to date. After a moderate effort at Leopardstown in mid-August, he took a step back in the right direction at Bellewstown last time out, running up to a level that would be good enough to take a race like this. The trip of a mile seemed to suit him and he looks well poised to run hot here.
I am hoping Ronan Whelan will have won on Zaamer en route to securing a double in the 6.00pm, 45-65 handicap over a mile here. Top weight Cautious Approach has a bit to carry off 9st 12lb, but on her best form she has the most proveable ability in this field and if putting it down on the fibresand tonight, she will surely go very well around Dundalk once again.
Earlier in the year, this 4yo shed her maiden tag here and bar one poor effort back in May, she has largely held her form quite well.A Racing Post Rating of 67, backed up by a Topspeed rating of 59 for her Killarney win two starts back is definitely good enough form to see Cautious Approach land the spoils here, with course experience on her side. She has a wide enough draw but hopefully Whelan can negotiate a clean path, if so the selection will go very well indeed.
If building on a promising debut effort in Limerick back in July, this Jessica Harrington trained Dream Ahead filly should win this maiden, again boasting a fantastic prize of 16,000 Euro for a race of its kind. Pixel Power produced a Rating Post Rating of 74 when second over the six and a half furlong trip there, backed up by a very useful speed figure which is superior to anything else on show here.
Obviously, we never can legislate for other rivals improving at this stage of the season, or for a horse not quite acting on the all-weather surface. But Pixel Power has the profile to take this and top odds of around 9/4-2/1 this morning could look generous shortly after 7pm. She is likely to prove popular in the market and will hopefully prove a difficult filly to deny.
