Leg 1: (5) Hermes Allen (7) Impaire Et Passe

I think Hermes Allen looks rock-solid to run a very big race, bringing with him the best form on offer. There are some lively Irish challengers, but he sets the standard, and crucially has that win on the course under his belt. With 10 runners and 3 places he should get us off to the perfect start, and allow us more places in the tricky final legs of Day Two.

Impaire Et Passe is another high class recruit who you feel has loads more to come. He goes in here, and we hope to go into the 2nd leg with all lines still in tact.

Leg 2: (4) Gerri Colombe (10) Thyme Hill

Look no further than Gerri Colombe who steps up in trip which should see him to even better effect. Gordon Elliott had a winner on Day One and he can get another in the bag here. He gets the trip having won over 3 miles as a point to point.

Thyme Hill also goes in as we look to get multiple lines up. He is perhaps the forgotten horse in this and is a really solid jumper. He goes back up in distance which will be up his street and is a danger to the favourite.

Leg 3: (1) Fil Dor (11) Good Risk At All (19) San Salvador (21) An Epic Song

The Coral Cup is usually the death of so many Placepots. Taking no chances here and having 4 picks.

An Epic Song should go well with the rain that has come. He’s very lightly raced and there should be more to from him. His win at Punchestown a year ago puts him right there in this. He could be on a handy mark and is a danger to all.

Good Risk At All pulled too hard last time, but is back at his distance. The softer conditions will suite him a lot more than most and he should be staying on well late on.

San Salvador win in fine style last time out and definitely makes the shortlist for Joseph O’Brien, and his jockey takes off a valuable 3lbs of his already good racing weight.

I also want to have Fil Dor in there despite the big weight. He’s top weight for a reason, and he’s got that little bit of class in this. He can certainly get in the mix.

Leg 4: (3) Edwardstone

A big run is promised by Edwardstone who thrives at Cheltenham and was so impressive in last year’s Arkle. He looks set to go well and can trouble last year’s winner Energumene who has definite risks attached after flopping last time.

Leg 5: (4) Delta Work

Galvin is all the rage in the Cross Country but this course is very much a marmite affair. Delta Work has been running so well in these events since winning this last year. He’s off level weights today, is aimed at this race and the rain that has come so everything has fallen right. He’s the only horse in this leg and we expect him to place with little fuss.

Leg 6: (1) Andy Durfresne (3) Final Orders (4) Third Time Lucki

I wide-open last leg and I’m taking three here.

Andy Dufresne went oh so close in this last year, and looks set to run well again. He runs off the same mark, and again the ground is right for his challenge.

Final Orders has been nothing short of sublime since taking on fences. He’s an outstanding jumper and I the vibes are right for a huge run here.

Third Time Lucki has come back to form and is a really good horse on his day. He can have the odd jumping error, but travels powerfully. I’m hoping he can settle in the big field and get into a rhythm which will see him to best effect.
