Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase Tips 2025 – Consistent Tizzard Performer To Land Doncaster Prize

There’s a hugely competitive renewal of the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase at Doncaster on Saturday afternoon and it looks a real head-scratcher for punters. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers has been given the job to try and find the 1-2-3 for what should be a cracking renewal on Town Moor.

THE CHANGING MAN

(Brendan Powell/Joe Tizzard)

Joe Tizzard’s The Changing Man still remains a maiden over fences, but in his eight races over the larger obstacles he’s finished second on four occasions, so he’s been knocking on the door for a long time. Second in the Rehearsal Chase behind Frero Banbou at Newcastle two outing ago, he was last seen chasing home the classy Victtorino in the Ascot Silver Cup Handicap Chase. That’s top notch staying handicap form and while he’s been upped in the handicap he is a really solid performer and is well fancied to get his head in front for the first time here.

FORWARD PLAN

(Chad Bament/Anthony Honeyball)

Beaten a nose by Annual Invictus in this race 12 months ago, Forward Plan will look to go one better in the 2025 renewal, but off a 9lbs higher mark in this year’s event he’s going to face a stiffer test. Chad Bament will be in the saddle and is able to take 10lbs off for his allowance, but Anthony Honeyball’s raider will need a career best. He was an excellent third last time out at Doncaster, so he has shown to be in decent form, but this is a more competitive contest and he will need to improve again.

IDALKO BIHOUE

(Tom Bellamy/Nigel Twiston-Davies)

An impressive winner on only his second start over fences at Cheltenham, Idalko Bihoue has failed to kick on from that victory in October 2023 and has struggled to play a notable roles in recent times. The seven-year-old was down the field at Haydock off a mark of 130 and he takes his chance off 128 here. He steps up in trip which could aid his chances, but he needs to build considerably on what he’s shown recently and faces a tough task.

REST OF THE FIELD

Dan Skelton’s Snipe sneaks in towards the bottom of the weights of this contest and has run well in two Carlisle contests recently. Second on both occasions he’s one that could continue his progression over the larger obstacles and has to come into the each way reckoning, while Tightenyourbelts is in the form of his life having won twice at Exeter and Ludlow, but he’s 8lbs higher here, so needs to kick on again.

Frero Banbou got the better of The Changing Man in the Rehearsal Chase earlier in the season, but the hugely consistent Venetia Williams-trained raider has been given a notable hike and could find this too much. Cheltenham Hunter Chase winner Sine Nomine is one of those with stamina in abundance and has to be another worth of an each-way mention, while the likes of Charlie Uberalles and Famous Bridge add more depth to what should be a thrilling renewal.

VERDICT

It’s finally time for THE CHANGING MAN to break his duck over fences and Joe Tizzard’s star can finally get his name on the winner’s roll of honour. A really consistent performer he can get the better of Dan Skelton’s Snipe, who should go close off a light weight, while Sine Nomine could outstay his rivals to pick up third position.
