image-left-align HeyhoeAutocratic can win the day’s big race for Sir Michael Stoute by defying a penalty in the 2.30 at Haydock. Stoute’s colt looks one of the few improvers in the 12-strong field.

Since he landed a similar contest at Sandown earlier in the season, Autocratic has reportedly worked in eye-catching fashion back in Newmarket and as long as the ground isn’t too soft at the Lancashire venue, he might well be up to conceding weight all round to his rivals.

Most of the older horses here seem past their best or lacking in consistency while the three-year-olds, Laraaib and Frankuus, present a more potent threat. The former steps up sharply in class after three wins in lesser grade this term while the latter is one of those annoying Mark Johnston horses that seems to run every other week without ever winning.
