Rocky’s Treasure looks a bet in the 3.00 at Cheltenham on Saturday. This test of stamina should be right up the six-year-old’s street on his seasonal debut.
Patience has been Kim Bailey’s ally in his handling of the former winning Irish pointer who really looked the part when landing his last two starts of the previous campaign at Doncaster and Ffos Las. Despite not quite settling on both occasions, Rocky’s Treasure showed he was a likely improver when sent over this longer trip.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Bailey had pencilled in this good quality handicap some time ago as the gelding’s first target of the season, and with some real staying types in his pedigree, he might be able to surprise the race favourite and main danger, Thomas Campbell, who is partnered by a young claimer after his course success three weeks ago.
