Heyhoe's-Daily-View-v2Cape Byron is fancied to score for Roger Varian in the 4.05 at York on Thursday. The five-year-old should find the quicker ground in his favour here.

In truth, Varian’s colt is making up for lost time following an abbreviated campaign in 2017, but one that still saw him land a competitive Ascot contest and edge his way into third in a listed race in France on his final outing. On both occasions, he showed plenty of dash allied to a strong travelling style and this good quality handicap looks the ideal starting point for what could prove a stellar season.

A trip to Meydan in March didn’t work out, but recent gallop reports suggest Cape Byron should be fit and firing for his seasonal turf debut. Race favourite Original Choice held on gamely to land a re-routed Thirsk Hunt Cup last time but may prove vulnerable on today’s faster surface.
