HeyhoeFrench Crusader can keep up the good work for Nicky Henderson by winning the 2.15 at Doncaster on Wednesday. This beautifully-bred gelding should be sharper for his hurdling debut at this course a fortnight ago.

It’s refreshing to see horses racing on good to soft ground after the atrocious conditions that passed for official going at Haydock last weekend. Inevitably, Nicky Henderson’s horses tend to perform really well on a half-way decent surface and a strike-rate of almost 40% in the past five seasons on Town Moor underlines the suitability of the Seven Barrows team to racing at Doncaster.

French Crusader should be better for his run here the other day, and it looks as if he has Alan King’s Canelo to beat in this run-of-the-mill novices’ hurdle. The latter has disappointed so far this season but could well turn over a new leaf on his first start for 69 days.
