DESERT DREAMER (2.30 Ascot, 1pt each-way, 14/1)

This again looks very tough, and the draw may be against her, but I loved how DESERT DREAMER picked up and finished out in both of her races at Newmarket. The fact that Stuart Williams trains her is surely a factor in her big price but what she has done on the track is enough to think she can improve into a top prospect.

She took a keen hold on debut and was caught behind a wall of horses in seemingly an impossible position but was last off the bridle, switched and picked up in the style of a very good horse and was well on top at the finish.

The trainer rarely has any two-year-old winners, let alone first-time winners and was 0-103 at Newmarket with such types. She was just as impressive over 6f next time out at the same venue and again was keen early on, but the drop back to 5f today on this stiff, flatter track will suit her much better, and she is an exciting prospect.

ARTURO TOSCANINI (3.05 Ascot, 1pt each-way, 12/1)

A chance is taken on ARTURO TOSCANINI, who has shown plenty of ability in a short space of time and has been crying out for a more suitable distance. This is a big jump up in trip, but he looked every inch a stayer at the Curragh in a Group 3 last time on heavy ground, and the form of that race looks strong in the context of this one. I am not entirely convinced that his stablemate Wordsworth has achieved much and he is far too short in the market for me.

BOUNCE THE BLUES (3.40 Ascot, 1pt each-way, 25/1)

This market looks crazy, and I believe that Lady Bowthorpe was flattered by her second to Palace Pier and now needs to back that up under a penalty. BOUNCE THE BLUES is very lightly raced for a four-year-old and would have bolted up in a Group 3 last time if granted a clear passage.

She looks well over-priced on the balance of her form, having run some of the fastest time figures in the race and being open to further improvement. The step back up to 1m will suit her, as will a big field, good ground and a strong pace.

AGINCOURT (3.40 Ascot, 0.5pt each-way, 18/1)

AGINCOURT has run her best races second time out, including in this last year when a head second to the smart Nazeef, a horse that has had today's favourite in behind previously.

She returned with an excellent performance at Goodwood when attempting to give away chunks of weight to two improving three-year-olds, in which one has given the form a boost by chasing home Creative Flare at Newbury. Nevertheless, she is continuously underestimated and would have finished closer to Lady Bowthorpe in the Valiant Stakes here last year if not constantly denied a clear run.

AUDARYA (4.20 Ascot, 0.5pt win, 16/1)

I am taking a chance on AUDARYA here at the double-figure price she is. She is ultimately overpriced on her Breeders' Cup victory, and her Longchamp third behind subsequent Breeders' Cup turf winner Tarnawa (Beaten 1 length), and she readily took care of Lord North at that meeting. Yes, she may need the run, but she has gone well fresh previously and something tells me this won't be straightforward for the two at the top of the market.

POWER OF STATES (5.00 Ascot, 0.5pt each-way, 80/1)

I was tempted to get right involved with this race with some of my favourites in here, Finest Sound, Astro King, Matthew Flinders and Irish Admiral, but I struggled to split them, in all honesty, and the only one I wanted to back was POWER OF STATES.

This horse has improved leaps and bounds on the all-weather, but it's unlikely the surface is the reason for improvement given he was frustratingly ridden from the rear on most of his turf starts in lower graded races with no pace on offer.

However, he has taken his form up a notch recently since fitted with the visor, including when chasing home Forest of Dean and Felix in the Winter Derby (they both contest the Wolferton on Tuesday). He is drawn well in stall 23 and is dropping back slightly in trip, so he will surely be given a prominent ride by James Doyle, and I don't expect him to be stopping.

STUNNING BEAUTY (6.10 Ascot, 1pt win, 9/1)

The unexposed STUNNING BEAUTY may have been done over by the draw here, but she is a prominent racer, unexposed and returned to these shores with a hardy victory at Leicester. That line of form is arguably the best on offer in this race, and she is entitled to improve again.

She is unbeaten in the UK, has beaten today's favourite Lights On by 7 1/2 lengths at Leicester, and her debut win at Newmarket which she turned into a procession, has worked out so well that she must be well treated off this new mark of 96. This straight track will suit, and Silvestre De Sousa is a master tactician, so I trust him from this low draw.
