Gastara - (12.30 Chepstow, 0.5pt Each-way - 100/1)

It takes a leap of faith to back one at this price but GASTARA on bumper debut last April over course and distance found only One Touch (131) too good after hanging in the closing stages showing signs of greenness. He reappeared at the same venue in October 2019 for his second start and pulled the arms off his jockey for the whole circuit before fading two furlongs out in a race that has worked out very well. He cut no mustard in the Newbury Bumper won by Son Of Camas or his Hurdle debut at Exeter behind Sporting John but he did show encouraging signs here on seasonal reappearance behind the smart Star Gate over 2m4f. The selection again was far too keen to do himself justice and pulled the arms off his jockey when held up off a slow pace until the uphill climb. He caught they eye making headway and kept on under an easy hand and heels ride inside the home straight and he did the best of those held up with the first seven places filled by horses all ridden prominently (fourth runs in the 12.55 Ascot). This is not the strongest of races and he is entitled to improve for the run and if he can settle better this time around the drop back in trip looks a good move for the keen going sort.

Buzz - (2.40 Ascot, 1.5pts Win - 5/4) and Ecco (0.5pts Each-Way - 6/1

This is not something I would normally do, but I am convinced that this race is between BUZZ and Ecco. The first mentioned is the obvious choice and every jack the lad will put this up after his excellent second on seasonal return in the Welsh Champion Hurdle and quite rightly so. However that does mean his price is currently shortt enough and although, in my opinion, he is a worthy favourite I cant get away from ECCO either and I am concerned about the masses effect. The latter has performed poorly in his last three runs, but they have all come on left handed tracks and stable number one jockey Harry Cobden has not been on in either of those runs. He now returns to a right handed track and his form figures read 2116 (debut) coupled amongst those is a six length course and distance win. He was given a rating of 141 and bumped into Fred (144) and attempted to give him 8lbs on his last run on a right handed track and finished well clear of the remainder. He is essentially making his handicap debut on a right handed track today off a mark of 133 and he looks a solid each way play here especially if the first time cheekpieces can eek out improvement.

King Of Realms - (2.05 Ascot, 0.5pt Each-way - 9/1)

KING OF REALMS progressed into a useful chaser last term but 3m was a stretch on a fair few occasions so this drop back in trip looks a good move. He returns to action just 1lb higher than his last winning mark which came at Warwick in a first time visor and he seemed to take well to the switch in and out of headgear so the fitting of cheek-pieces today for the first time bodes well. The booking of Robbie Power catches the eye and he has form figures at this course of 1210 and the return to a softer surface for which his figures read 3210 shouldn’t be an inconvenience so a chance is taken in a wide open event.
