WESTOVER (2.20 Pontefract, 1pt win 11/8)

There are plenty of unexposed types in here, but WESTOVER did well from off the pace at Newbury to chase home a useful one to confirm his debut promise at Sandown, and he looks just the type to keep on progressing with racing.

He was still green under pressure at Newbury, and the effort can be upgraded given how keen he was in the early stages of that race. He certainly remains one to view positively, and in the hope that the softer surface will turn this race into a stamina test, he has to go close from a good draw in stall 3.

CELTIC ART (2.45 Bath, 1pt each-way 4/1)

Everything looks in place for a big run from CELTIC ART, who has been working his way back to form this season since being gelded and now takes a drop into class 4, 0-85 company, for the first time and sneaks in at the top of the weights off a handicap mark of 86.

He is drawn well in stall 12 - over 8f to 12f A/E = 1.02 - and is 4lbs lower than when chasing home subsequent Cambridgeshire runner-up Anmaat over course and distance in Aug. He has given the firm impression that he is capable of winning a race such as this, and this one is not as strong as the numbers suggest.

TRUE MASON (NAP) (4.05 Pontefract, 2pt win 6/1)

TRUE MASON holds excellent claims back at 6f and into a class 5 race over this distance for the first time, and he is 14lbs lower than his staying on close up 5th at this course in September last season. Add in the jockey claim, and he is 21lbs lower.

Ryan Sexton takes off 7lbs to effectively allow him to run off a handicap mark of 63 (a career-low), and that puts him 15lbs lower than his last 6f soft ground run in which he was third beaten two lengths at Doncaster in a class 4 race in May. This testing track and stiff home straight should play to his strengths, and he is drawn well in stall four, so he has very little excuse not to be winning this event.

DANA FOREVER (4.05 Pontefract, 1pt each-way 12/1)

I want to have a cover bet in this race because the morning odds about DANA FOREVER are simply too big. She got off the mark in a maiden contest at Thirsk two starts ago on soft ground before finding the ground far too quick for her at Nottingham dropped back to 5f, but on the balance of her form, she has been running over the wrong trip with 12 of her 22 runs under rules coming over 5f.

Her best work has come over 6f and, in particular, on soft ground. She has had nine runs over 6f but only five on turf, and if we discard those that were run on good to firm give she wants it slower, she has only had three suitable attempts.

Two of those were on soft ground, her latest win and a second-placed effort at Newmarket on seasonal return last June. In that race, she split two horses now rated 17lbs and 29lbs higher in the handicap. She is drawn well to attack her from stall five, and there doesn't look to be too much competition for the lead and at double-figure odds, she looks too big.
