Fawsley Spirit - (1.30 Market Rasen, 2pts win - 9/4)

This looks a good opportunity for FAWSLEY SPIRIT who was unfortunate to come down at the final flight at Ascot when he had the race at his mercy. The eventual winner, Morning Spirit, had been knocking on the door for his last couple of runs and the third (eventual second) holds some strong Novice Hurdle form to his name. He has harshly been given a 7lb rise for that fall but he hasn’t been back with Ben Pauling for long and looks a revived character after a recent spin in the Point to Point sphere (chase home Milanford 140). On that recent evidence he is surely close to shedding his Maiden tag and should prove tough to catch on the front end.

Vision Des Flos - (2.40 Market Rasen, 1pt each-way - 8/1)

If this race doesn’t come too soon for On The Blind Side it is some excellent placing by connections and he will prove almost impossible to beat on the evidence of his Kempton run. On the chance that this does come too quick for the above mentioned the one I want to play is VISION DES FLOS who can have a line put through his Long Walk Hurdle run. Robbie Power went off at a ridiculous pace out in front and he was never put into the race and faded on the home turn. He did go well for longer than expected however and is unexposed at this trip having raced only twice over 3m and on both occasions in Grade 1 company. He looked set to go close in the Champion Stayers at Punchestown two-years ago before a blunder at the final flight and his breeding suggests this is the way forward for the eight-year-old. This looks a good opportunity for him to put it all together today and is a live each way player should all eight stand their ground and its hard to see him out of the frame.

Captain Chaos - (3.00 Warwick, 1pt win - 11/2)

I’ve had a slight change of heart in this race since the GG Weekend Watch Preview but I have still had a saver on The Hallow Ginge my original selectio. However, CAPTAIN CHAOS is a favourable price in places with certain bookmakers and given it is quite clear he has been laid out for the race he is tough to ignore. This year’s renewal doesn’t look as strong as his excellent front running second in last years contest and the form of that race worked out well enough to suggest he can defy this 2lb higher mark. The winner was well fancied for the Grand National and finished runner up in the Becher Chase on seasonal return and the fourth, The Conditional, won the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next time out. That looks solid form and this is the first time connections have reached for the headgear since that race and his form figures in headgear read (w/o tongue-tie) 1222211 in his entire career. He is 2lb higher this year and has won off a 2lb lower mark previously and should he get the aggressive ride he was given last term he can prove tough to peg back.

Come On Teddy - (3.35 Warwick, 1pt win - 4/1)

COME ON TEDDY ran an excellent time figure when winning at Cheltenham for this column last month and a 7lb rise looks more than fair on that effort. He is unexposed at 3m and is now 2/3 over this trip so there looks to be very few reasons to take him on. The form has worked out well so far with On The Blind Side running a career best next time to chase home McFabulous at Kempton in the Grade 2 and the right horses in the race finished third and fourth. He won going away and this race looks less competitive on paper and Tom George (with all due respect) doesn’t strike me as a trainer who is thinking ahead to the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham so he should be here to win his race.
