Tree Of Liberty (12.25 Kelso, 1pt win - 5/1)

This is TREE OF LIBERTY’S easiest task for quite some time and although well being needs to be taken on trust after not being seen for 76 days since pulling up, he is so well handicapped its worth taking a chance. This is the yards only runner on the card and they make the 10hr round trip to Kelso and have booked a decent Conditional Jockey in William Marshalll (his only ride). The selection ran well at Warwick for a long way in a competitive 0-120 when last seen but faded tamely in the first time blinkers. The headgear including the tongue tie has now been discarded and he is now dropped back to 2m for the first time since he was rated 143 (fences). He has been highly tried over distances he simply doesn’t stay and this trip move along with a drop in grade could see him bounce back to form off this much reduced hurdle mark of 115.

Castletown (2.45 Kelso, 0.5pt each-way - 50/1)

It may pay to take an each way chance here on CASTLETOWN who has ran this course well in the past and has looked a little one paced over shorter trips. The eight-year-old attempts three miles for the first time and although he is 0-17 over fences this trip could unlock further improvement now with the blinkers re-applied. A few in here have questions to answer over their jumping ability and he may get a soft lead on the front end. His form figures in this headgear read 6213222751223623 and with a run under his belt like today they read 61222512362. He is remarkably consistent and eligible for much weaker races than this Novice contest today but connections look to have targeted the race after finding only Shades Of Midnight too good in this in 2018.

Battleoverdoyen (13.40 Punchestown, 1pt win - 13/2)

I like Allaho for the Ryanair in March but he came on a tonne for his reappearance last term and has the scope for better down the line so I am taking him on with BATTLEOVERDOYEN. Gordon Elliot could have played a blinder here getting his mount race fit with a Grade 2 win at Down Royal and he is the one most likely to be on song here. He took care of Easy Game and Samcro with the minimum of fuss on that occasion recording a career best and that form line ties a lot of these together. His only blemish has come at Cheltenham and it may be the case that he is better suited to a right handed track such as this one. There are very few negative with him and the price looks good too, so gets the vote.
