MASTER OF THE SEAS - (3.35 Newmarket, 1pt win - 11/4)

This race on all known form lacks a bit of depth and MASTER OF THE SEAS represents the same winning connections of Masar in 2018 a subsequent Derby winner. The selection has been spoken of as a potential Derby candidate later in the year but his recent eye catching run behind stable mate Naval Crown (runner-up yesterday in a Listed event) should be enough to put him spot on for this. He holds a fitness advantage over all bar one of his rivals and his 2 lengths second to the very smart Thunder Moon in the National Stakes is the best piece of form on offer. That Group 1 7f was a trip short of his best and today’s stiff 1m can see him improve further on these shores. The first time hood should help settle his free going nature and he is a promising horse that is unbeaten at this track which includes a Group 2 victory. Devilwala showed a similar piece of form when fourth in the Dewhurst last October but its highly likely his favourable rail running position helped his cause on that occasion but must be respected none the less.

ZABEEL CHAMPION - (4.00 Ripon, 2pts win - 11/4)

There is a good chance that from a low draw Ben Curtis will be able to grab the rail and make all of the running in a field that is full of mainly hold up horses and ZABEEL CHAMPION shaped much better than the bare result at Chelmsford last time. He was unfavoured by his wide route when unable to get the lead early on but he stuck to the task well despite making a challenge four wide on his first start for more than 224 days. That performance suggested he had trained on from three to four and under these conditions (1m2f good ground) his form figures read 012 with the 0 off the back of a 229 day break. He holds race fitness over the main bulk of his rivals but improved for the run last term so better can be expected today and this undulating track should hold no fears with form figures on such courses reading 112. This looks an excellent opportunity off a reasonable handicap mark to score with his main market rival, Howzer Black, seemingly held through form lines and is more exposed than the selection at this trip.

NORTHERN BEAU - (4.25 Cheltenham, 1pt win - 4/1)

NORTHERN BEAU is an exposed eight-year-old but she has her optimum conditions here for the first time since 2019 when taking the scalp of the useful Happy Diva over course and distance off a 5lb lower handicap mark. She will likely get things all her own way on the front end here and is 2/2 on this New Course over fences and the visor is switched out for the blinkers which sees the same combination of headgear applied to win here off a 4lbs higher mark in December 2019.
