AintreeThe Aintree Festival is upon us and our in-form tipster, Daryl Carter has five selections for the opening days card at the Liverpool venue. Check out his selections below and a couple of excellent new customer sign-up offers to give your Aintree funds a timely boost!

Hitman - (1:45pm Aintree, 1pt win - 9/4)

HITMAN has achieved plenty in just 7 career runs to suggest he has the underlining ability to increase his official rating of from 151 into the 160’s in time and that unlikely to happen for most of the others in this field. He had the perfect prep race for this contest a confidence booster if nothing else and this has been the target for quite some time. His RPR of 160 in the Novice Grade 1 at Sandown over a trip likely to prove short of his best reads extremely well in this contest with only Fusil Raffles achieving a higher on at Cheltenham in the Marsh. He looks an exciting prospect and providing his jumping holds up he should be able to confirm form with Eldorado Allen who I perceive as the chief threat over this new trip.

Adagio - (2.20 Aintree, 2pts win - 7/4)

The price difference between Triumph Hurdle second ADAGIO and Monmiral is absurd and it’s highly likely that the form line through Nassalam is making this market but I am of the view that the Gary Moore horse didn’t run his race at Haydock and he did at Chepstow, behind the selection. Adagio’s Chepstow form was also given a boost when the third and fourth finished a similar distance to each other when fourth and third in the Boodles Handicap at the Cheltenham festival behind a subsequent winner. That looks the most reliable piece of form and the selections’ second in the Triumph Hurdle is by far the strongest piece of form in this race and he has his ground conditions to suit. Monmiral needs to prove he can handle this quicker ground and has achieved far less than the selection so the bet has to be Adagio.

Waiting Patiently - (2.50 Aintree, 1pt win - 15/4)

The value in this race may well lie with WAITING PATIENTLY who is unexposed at this trip and has been crying out for a return to 3m in which he has only had 2 attempts, both in the King George (one unseat early on). He had the beating at Kempton in the King George of today’s favourite Clan Des Obeaux when recording his highest RPR of 170 on his penultimate run and Clan Des Obeaux had his ideal conditions on that occasion and has been well beaten in this race the last two years so he must be taken on. Native River surely will find this quick turn around of 20 days from the Gold Cup too much at his age of 11 and his best performances have come on the back of breaks while Tiger Roll who is a fascinating contender has to prove he can do it over the regulation fences in stronger company. Clondaw Castle is improving and has plenty in his favour but this race is much stronger than his latest 2 length handicap win over Erick Le Rouge. Mister Fisher, Real Steel and Aso all have stamina doubts but the first mentioned is likely to prove the best of that trio.

Moon Over Germany - (4.40 Aintree, 1.5pts each-way - 7/1)

MOON OVER GERMANY looks to have been targeted for a repeat victory in this race after a perfect prep run in a Grade 2 at Navan in his first run over fences since November 2019 when beaten 5 lengths by Notebook at Punchestown. Prior to that he was beaten by Robin De Carlow by 5 lengths and in second was the subsequent Arkle and Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On. He has been kept over hurdles since then but his 10 length romp at this venue in this race in 2019 reads extremely well and he returns just 5lbs higher inclusive of the talented Jordon Gainford’s 7lbs claim. He must go close in this overall weak handicap.

Jan Maat - (4:40pm Aintree, 1pt each-way - 20/1)

JAN MAAT is worth a small cover bet at a big price from the same yard with Rachael Blackmore aboard for the first time in three runs and he caught the eye in a red hot race at Leopardstown at the DRF only for a mistake three out to scupper his chances. He is still lightly raced and good ground is the key to him so he gets a saver with five places on offer.
