Electrical Storm (3.00 Newcastle, 1pt e/w @ 7/1)

Obviously the likes of Intrinsic Bond and Fresh demand maximum respect but they have both been well found in the market so it may be worth siding with ELECTRICAL STORM. The bin Suroor runner makes his belated seasonal reappearance but given the trainer’s runners this season have been fit and ready first time up that shouldn’t be too much of a concern. He returns after having a gelding operation and it was mentioned previously in this column about the successful strike the trainer has on the back of these operations and if fit a handicap mark of 87 looks very lenient. This horse was on my pre-season list of well handicapped horses and he makes his handicap debut with first time cheek-pieces enlisted today. His two-year-old form grants him maximum respect off this opening mark of 87 and the market looks to have underestimated him so a chance is taken.

Keep It Brief (3:10pm Yarmouth.1.5pt win @ 4/1)

KEEP IT BRIEF was clearly being readied for Handicap Company in his Novice start at Redcar behind owner mate Without A Fight (105) catching the eye under tender handling. He put a poor run at Wolverhampton put behind him when a powerful winner at Kempton last time and 7lb rise for that win looks very fair but should not stop his progressive thread. Soft ground is an unknown but he could be a fair way ahead of the handicapper and the booking of Andrea Atzeni again catches the eye.

Buhtari (6.40 Kempton, 1pt win @ 9/1

This represents a big drop in grade for BUHTURI who wasn’t disgraced last time on unfavoured soft ground in a Class 2 event and although yet to try his hand on the all-weather he still makes plenty of appeal of this mark of 84. On seasonal return he ran Brad The Brief (104) close at Haydock with the rapidly improving Byline (95) in behind both whom have gone on to elevate their handicap marks. The form of his second run at Newmarket behind Lexington Dash (93) was given a boost by the fourth Ascension (96) the next twice and that one is now 9lb higher while the selection sits 5lb lower today. Since that run, the selection has run over 7f and then on soft ground over 6f but has been dropped 5lb so its likely he still has more to offer and the drop in grade could be the ticket.
