[ACCIDENTAL AGENT w/o Palace Pier] – (2.30 Ascot, 1pt each-way – 50/1)

I have a feeling that this may be an upset, although I wouldn’t have any strong grounds to take on the favourite, so a play in the without market looks the way to go. ACCIDENTAL AGENT won this race in 2018, refused to race in 2019, was 5th in 2020.

He was beaten just 4 lengths by Circus Maximus when held up in a slowly run race and had to challenge on the wrong side of the track and that run last year came on seasonal reappearance on the back of a gelding operation so it can be upgraded. In his career, second time out (like today), he has run his best races, and his Newbury run on seasonal reappearance last month was full of promise. He has had wind surgery, and everything looks in place for a big run.

[GISBURN] – (3.05 Ascot, 1pt win – 13/2)

GISBURN has offered plenty of promise in his two runs at Newbury and looks like a horse with a big future. He hit the line very hard last time out, and although he had the experience advantage over his rivals, he couldn’t have done things any easier. He is clearly quirky but he is also talented, and his performance was backed up by the clock.

[BERKSHIRE SHADOW] – (3:05pm Ascot, 1pt each-way – 16/1)

BERKSHIRE SHADOW beat the above on debut at Newbury after falling out of the stalls and losing plenty of ground on the field. He travelled through his race like a good horse and then showed he might be an above-average type when making up considerable ground to finish out a good winner.

The step-up in trip is undoubtedly going to benefit him and the time figure of the race compared with 0-105 handicap matched up well for a debut performance. He is, as are most, entitled to improve considerably.

[EXTRAVANGENT KID] – (3.40 Ascot, 1pt win – 13/2)

EXTRAVAGANT KID looked very good when landing the Al Quoz Sprint in Meydan, and although that form will unlikely be good enough here, the performance deserves an upgrade. He was drawn on the wrong side of the track and switched after a furlong but still travelled like the best horse in the race and won with a bit in hand.

The drop back to 5f will be no issue here with the amount of pace on in this race. His 4th behind Glass Slippers in the Breeder’s Cup, when forced wide for much of the race from a car park draw, puts him in with a big shout. He will be finishing strongly.

[KING’S LYNN] 3:40pm Ascot, 1pt each-way – 20/1)

KING’S LYNN is improving with each start and looks a big price here given he will stay further than this 5f trip, and you may just need that with the already mentioned amount of pace on here. He has only had eight starts and keeps pulling out further improvement.

The return to a faster surface will suit, and the market looks to have underestimated his chances.

[THRONE HALL] – (18:10 Ascot, 1pt win – 10/1)

THRONE HALL is open to further improvement stepped up in trip to 1m6f after lacking the pace over 1m4f, but his form over that trip has a strong look to it. He looks just the type to make up into an Ebor horse or even perhaps a group horse.

He is so lightly raced but has achieved a good deal in a short space of time, and it would be folly to think he doesn’t have more to come over this new trip with a strong pace likely to suit him very well.
