BLUE DE VEGA (1.40 Haydock, 1pt each-way 11/1)
It takes faith to side with BLUE DE VEGA given the times he has disappointed, but he has now dropped to a career low mark of 86 and made a pleasing return at Newmarket. He was beaten nearly four lengths that day in 0-105 company and drops into a o-90 class 3 event today.
He has only contested this level of opposition (0-90) just twice in the last two years, finishing fifth off a mark of 91 and more recently second off 89. He hasn’t been beaten far in his three runs at Haydock, with those efforts coming off marks of 95, 93 and 98.
His latest victory came on the all-weather off a mark of 87 and he sits 1lb lower for this race with PJ McDonald booked. That rider gets on well with the horse yielding form figures of 8, 1, 8, 2, 2, 3 and 27% of his rides (66/236) have finished in the first three.

DEVIOUS COMPANY (2.10 Haydock, 1pt win 11/4)
Some nicely bred types in here but the form of DEVIOUS COMPANY’S debut victory over course and distance has worked out well producing the second, fourth and seventh in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. He did that comfortably and should put that debut experience to good use here and hold too much for his rivals.

BRUNCH (3.40 Haydock, 1pt win 9/2)
BRUNCH wasn’t an expensive purchase but did show himself to be a useful type when recording back-to-back victories in impressive fashion at the end of last season and the beginning of this.
He can find himself unlucky not to be 3-3 after blowing the start on debut and his return effort at Newcastle confirmed last year’s promise. The return run has worked out well with the second going on to confirm the placings with the third, and achieving a rating of 79.
He gave that rival 7lbs and a comfortable beating, enough to suggest a prosperous life in handicaps await. He runs today off a mark of 83 and collateral form means he is 4lbvwell in at the weights.

MY GIRL MAGGIE (5.20 Haydock, 1.5pts win 5/2)
MY GIRL MAGGIE should prove tough to beat after pulling eighteen lengths clear of the remainder alongside a handicap plot job of Sir Mark Prescott’s given she runs off the same mark. The winner has since won again comfortably off a 6lbs higher mark and looks the type to go on up the handicap. Her previous effort this term at Newmarket suggests that she is more than capable of winning off this mark and given she is due to go up 7lbs in the future she is worth siding with over the favourite.

VALENTINO SUNRISE (6.55 Windsor, 1pt win 8/1)
This is a race that looks there for the taking and VALENTINO SUNRISE has slipped down the weights to a mark of 54, from a high of 63 last season. Connections gave him a return run on the all-weather and the handicapper dropped him a further 3lb.
He caught the eye at Beverley when denied a clear run inside the final furlong and now returns to Windsor in 0-63 company. He ran well here on all four visits last term but in particular over 5f off marks of 63, 63 and 59, so he should be primed to run well off 54. Tadhg O’Shea has been booked for the ride and is +£8.60 to a £1 level stake at this course.

ZLATAN (7.25 Windsor, 0.5pts each-way 33/1)
ZLATAN might not be the force of old but he is well treated on the pick of his most recent flat form. He caught the eye on return at Wolverhampton when stuck for room down the inside when attempting to come from the back of the field and given that he is 0-10 on the all-weather that was an encouraging sign.
He drops into Class 5 company for the first time since June 2018 when rated 76 and finishing second at Beverley. He went over hurdles last season and hasn’t been seen on the turf in a Flat race over this trip since September 2018 when rated 82, and then subsequently going up to a mark of 84.
Connections have either run him over trips too short or over hurdles since that day and he has yet to be given the opportunity to show he still retains some ability. He returns to Windsor, where he is 1-4 (two of those over 6f) and looks overpriced given his shrew connections. His trainer is operating at a profit to a level-stake here.
