HARDY DU SEUIL – (12.50 Haydock, 2pt win – 12/1)

HARDY DU SEUIL makes plenty of appeal in this contest and is one that he receives a six-pound weight for age allowance, so he may not have too much to find as the ratings suggest. He is a young progressive chaser on the up, and this switch to a left-handed track should see him to better effect after jumping out to the left at Hereford when a very cosy winner.

The soft ground will hold no fears and the step back up in trip looks another positive to his chances, given he needed every yard at Hereford to score. He has been wildly underestimated in the market here and is sure to put a bold showing.

GARY CLERMONT – (1.45 Ascot, 1.5pt win – 7/2)

GARY CLERMONT ran a screamer in the Betfair Exchange Trophy over 2m here on his latest start doing best of those ridden prominently and on the inside of the track so his performance can be upgraded, and he can make it third time lucky here at Ascot. His RPR ratings and speed figures have been climbing rapidly, and this is effectively an ease in grade, so he must have major claims off just 1lbs higher. He looks a good bet here despite the presence of Unexpected Party, who disappointed us last time out.

NGOLO – (1.45 Ascot, 1pt each-way – 16/1)

NGOLO is the cover bet in here at big odds, given he shaped with plenty of encouragement at Haydock for his new yard, and that was his first run over hurdles since April. There’s a chance he needed that outing on the back of a 69 day break, and the first time cheek-pieces tried there are now removed. He could be a dark horse in this contest with the trip looking spot on and his previous form for the Mullins yard respected. This is a lesser contest outside of Gary Clermont than his latest assignment, so he can grab a place at the least.

ROYAL PAGAILLE – (2.35 Haydock, 2pt win – 5/2)

Back to back wins for ROYAL PAGAILLE await in this contest, and I can see him going off a short-priced favourite. He is the classiest horse in the race and ran a screamer in the Gold Cup despite not jumping with fluency – he was shocking at his fences – but his engine was there for all to see.

He ran as well as can be expected on seasonal return in the Betfair Chase when finding A Plus Tard the only one too good. This is not a strong handicap he finds himself in, and while on paper it’s very hard to win off 163, he was only seven pounds lower when winning this contest last year, and that wouldn’t have stopped him there. He is still on the up and ground, track and trip are all in his favour. There’s simply not anything extremely well-treated in this field, so he must go close.
