There’s a whopping nine races taking place in front of the ITV Racing cameras on Saturday 23rd November, 2024 and it’s set to be a sparkling day’s action at Ascot and Haydock. With Graded races aplenty, our tipster Steve Chambers takes a look at the terrestrial action and picks out his best bets for the day…
2:30pm Haydock – Betfair Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle
Dan Skelton’s Doyen Quest was a mightily impressive winner at Cheltenham last weekend and the hugely progressive will look to quickly follow up and claim victory in the Betfair Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle at Haydock at 2:30pm. He will have a 5lb penalty to carry in what is a deeper race, but he shaped like he has a lot more to come over hurdles, so is going to be hard to beat.
However, he’s awfully short in the betting for such a tough race and there could be more attractive value elsewhere and the bottom-weighted PATRIOTIK could well ruffle a few feathers for Evan Williams. Last seen finishing behind Doyen Quest at Chepstow last month, the step up in trip should bring on improvement for the Williams charge and with Isabel Williams claiming 3lbs then his mark looks very attractive. He may not have the class to get his head in front on the day, but at double-figured odds he’s certainly a lively each-way play.

3:05pm Haydock – Betfair Chase
Saturday’s renewal of the Betfair Chase may lack significant strength in depth, but one horse can reign supreme and that is GREY DAWNING, who is still on the upgrade and can show his class by claiming victory in this Grade 1 event.
Much has been made of the stats and trends about the race – Check out Dave Young’s Betfair Chase Trends article here – but while a number of Grey Dawning’s rivals are on the significant downgrade he is one that can hold genuine Cheltenham Gold Cup aspirations. Royale Pagaille is the reigning champion and will come into the reckoning if the heavens open, while Ahoy Senor is a decent performer on his day, but it’s Grey Dawning that can simply outclass his rivals here.
Matthew Sutcliffe’s Value Punts – Betfair Chase Hero Can Go Back-To-Back
Racing from Haydock and Ascot has come under the watchful eye of Matty Sutcliffe on Saturday. He has four value bets across the ITV cards, including a two-point Betfair Chase tip. 1:15 Haydock – Betfair Racing Podcasts Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 2) (4yo+) – Dans Le Vent 50/1 0.5pt EW 4 places I was…
Thu 21 Nov 20243:40pm Haydock – Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase
Anthony Honeyball’s CREDO ran a fine race in this race 12 months ago to finish second to Famous Bridge and the nine-year-old mare is back for another crack at the contest and looks capable of getting her head in front on this occasion. She is 2lbs lower than last year’s mark, so she has to be a huge player if she can replicate the same performance.
Last seen finishing third at Wincanton, she’s sure to come on for that seasonal reappearance and while the likes of Take Your Time and Le Milos will be notable rivals it’s the Honeyball charge that can pick up her first win in over a year.
