There are eight races taking place in front of the ITV Racing cameras on Saturday and not only do they take in Newbury and Leicester, but there’s a real treat from Ireland as they host two Grade 1 contests from Leopardstown, which includes the Savills Chase. Our tipster Steve Chambers previews the action and picks out his best bets across the terrestrial action.

A decent bumper performer, Nicky Henderson’s GO TO WAR was beaten last time out at Huntingdon when he was chasing a third win in a row, but the Seven Barrows inmate can bounce back to winning ways on Saturday in the 1:45pm at Newbury. He looked a bit tapped for toe in that defeat, so it’s interesting that he steps up in trip two 2m 4f for this contest and that could bring on some notable improvement in what looks a trappy betting heat.

2:35pm Leopardstown – Savills Chase
Fact To File was a sparkling winner of the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown last time out, where he got the better of dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner GALOPIN DES CHAMPS, but the latter can make amends in Saturday’s Savills Chase, a race he won in style last season. Both trained by Willie Mullins they are undoubtedly the premier pairing in the staying chase division, but that John Durkan was over too short a trip for Galopin Des Champs and he comes into his own over 3m and he can show his class and cement his place as the premier performer in the Closutton yard.

Thu 26 Dec 20242:55pm Newbury – Coral Challow Novices’ Hurdle
There’s a fascinating renewal of the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle and it looks a fascinating duel between Dan Skelton’s The New Lion and the Paul Nicholls-trained REGENT’S STROLL. The former has shown more on the track so far, but the manner in which Regent’s Stroll won at Newbury last time out suggested he could be a really top class performer. He made a glaring mistake in the closing stages of that victory, but quickly got back on the bridle and pulled clear. This is much tougher, but he can duly outclass his market rival here and propel into the picture for the Grade 1 novice hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival.
