Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers take a look at the ITV7 races on Saturday 22nd March, 2025 and picks out his selection for each race.

Race 1 – 1.50pm Kelso – Ladbrokes ‘Big-Value You Can Bet On’ Mares’ Hurdle
Henry Daly’s WYENOT cruised to victory at Doncaster in a Listed Mares’ Hurdle two starts ago before she finished a creditable third in a Grade 2 contest at the same track on her last outing. Returning to Listed level here, the six-year-old will have to give weight away to all her rivals in the 1:50pm at Kelso, but she’s proven to be the best of these so far in her career, and can duly outclass her rivals to claim victory.
Race 2 – 2.05pm Newbury – Get Best Odds Guaranteed At BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle
Nicky Henderson’s CALIMYSTIC broke his maiden tag at the third time of asking last month when cruising to a seven length victory at Doncaster and the progressive six-year-old can continue that improvement with victory here. Tackling a handicap for the first time, he will have his toughest test to date on a racecourse, but given a mark of 118 he looks more than capable of playing a notable role in what is a thrilling betting heat for punters.

Race 3 – 2.25pm Kelso – Ladbrokes Go North Cab On Target Handicap Hurdle
He may be in the twilight of his career, but ASHINGTON still showed the fire burns bright when winning at Doncaster last week and the ten-year-old is looking to make it two wins on the bounce when lining up in the 2:25pm at Kelso. An impressive winner last Friday, the veteran stayed on really well that day and a 4lbs rise may not be enough to hold him back and he can duly knock in another victory in a fascinating contest.
Race 4 – 2.40pm Newbury – BetVictor Home Of The Saturday Superboost Handicap Chase
Richard Bandey’s THEATRE MAN has been desperately out of form in recent outings, but the nine-year-old has been dropped an eye-catching 4lbs by the handicapper and he looks capable of claiming victory again in what is a wide open 2:40pm contest. He’s now 2lbs lower than when he finished a fine second at Cheltenham last January, so if he can get his act together then he looks more than likely to figure here. He’s had wind surgery since his last run, so that could certainly aid his chances as well.

Race 5 – 3.00pm Kelso – Ladbrokes Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle
Fergal O’Brien’s NORTHERN AIR took four starts to finally get her head in front over hurdles, but the mare finally grabbed that win last time out at Taunton and she could be capable of more in the 3:00pm at Kelso on Saturday afternoon. She’s been given a mark of 110 for this contest, which looks workable, as she’s sure to improve in time and having showed excellent consistency she has to be considered one of the leading fancies for the race.
Race 6 – 3.15pm Newbury – BetVictor British EBF ‘National Hunt’ Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle
One of the standout races of the day, Harry Derham’s Jasmine Bliss is one of the leading contenders for the Grade 2 event at 3:15pm at Newbury. However, Nicky Henderson’s LA PINSONNIERE could well be the one to get better of her and looks to be a huge runner. She was beaten last time out by Jasmine Bliss off the same weight, but she will be in receipt of 7lbs in this weekend’s clash. Beaten well that day by Jasmine Bliss, the Seven Barrows inmate should improve for that outing and she can turn the form around and land the penultimate race in the ITV7.
Race 7 – 3.35 Kelso – Ladbrokes ‘Boost Your Bet Builder’ Handicap Chase
Sandy Thomson’s GOLD DES BOIS may be 11 years old now, but he showed two starts ago when winning at Kelso by a nose that he can still deliver the goods on the track. Outclassed at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day, where he was pulled up, he will return to calmer waters for this contest and with a small field going to post he looks like he could relish the return to Kelso and return to the winner’s enclosure.
