Successful at the track once on the new Tapeta surface over today’s trip, the selection has been campaigned at mostly longer distances since joining Nigel Tinkler and barely troubled the judge until 18 days ago when showing definite signs of a new lease of life. In fact, he looked a shade unfortunate when running into traffic problems late on and may have gone very close but for that. In the end, he recovered well but despite closing on the leaders again, his luck had run out.

That revival was over a mile and three-quarters but Exclusive Waters has never won beyond this evening’s distance and with his handicap mark looking much healthier, he can make it a second Tapeta surface victory and a fourth at the track.

JACK REGAN (Sandown, nb, 7.10) has decent course form without winning and went very close a month ago when denied in a sustained final-furlong battle by De Medici. He has since deservedly gone one better at Nottingham with a hood tried for the first time and with that retained, returns to Esher fancied and with the track speed figures in the book.

SIR JAMIE (Brighton, 4.30) ran well at the seaside venue yesterday on his return from a 77-day break, recovering from a slow start to chase a winner who’d already flown.

If he’s come out of that race okay and takes his place again so quickly, the five-year-old should prove hard to beat from a yard that does well at this meeting.
