Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogBILLY ROBERTS (Beverley, 7.30) enjoyed his belated return to the East Yorkshire venue 18 days ago so it’s no surprise to see him back again on Monday.

Apart from a poor effort at Pontefract in April, the six-year-old hasn’t run a bad race since joining Richard Whitaker and made it 3-4 at today’s venue on his penultimate start. There must be something about the stiff finish that suits as he bounded up the hill to score comfortably. He bumped into a fast-finishing favourite on Saturday at Ripon but held on to second and remains in fine form.

Connections are obviously happy with his current well-being and he reappears very quickly and, with some decent track speed figure in the locker, can maintain his excellent record here.

JUSTATENNER (Cartmel, 2.45) is creeping back to form and the two-time Cartmel winner is another back in action after running on Saturday.

The selection was unfortunate to bump into David Pipe’s Mr Clarkson in the £15,000 Cumbria Crystal Cup - who powered home to a five-length win - but he chased hard and was running on. He moves back up in trip now and, although hasn’t won over this far, gives every impression that he can put that right.

RETIREMENT BECKONS (Ayr, 3.35) had been threatening to get his head in front and after an agonising defeat over course and distance, came with a scything run from off the pace to gain a first victory at Hamilton on Thursday.

It was over a furlong and a half further but a repeat of the previous run here over 7f- plus the added confidence - can see him build on the initial success.
