Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogKING OF COMEDY (Sandown, 8.10) would probably be defending a 100% record had it not been for soft ground at Redcar last year.

A ready winner here first time out on fast going, the selection disappeared for four months and despite being very well backed, lost out on his return to racing in November. However, back again after another break he proved that running wrong with victory last month at Yarmouth on good to firm ground. It looked a decent contest for the grade, the front two were well clear of the rest and the winning time quick.

Tonight’s race represents a big step up in class but King Of Comedy holds a lofty entry in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Ascot and last year’s winner Without Parole (also trained by John Gosden) successfully followed the same route.

King Of Comedy 2pts win @ 7-2

There is precious little decent recent form on show in the 6f sprint but BUNGEE JUMP (Chepstow, 3.35) won this last year, making all in a good time. That was her season-high point but she was campaigned in some warm handicaps and was a shade unlucky not to add to her cv.

Bungee Jump now returns to Wales 4lb lower than a year ago and no doubt connections will have had this as a target for some time.

Bunjee Jump 1pt ew @ 8-1

LOVE DREAMS (Goodwood, 2.35) is also back defending his crown and another to have made all in victory.

Beaten only a length over course and distance earlier this month, the five-year-old returns 5lb lower in the ratings than when victorious a year ago. He is clear on my figures, fighting fit and gives the impression he is about to hit top form.
