12:40 Leopardstown – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Paddy And Maureen Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) (4yo+) – Lily Du Berlais 25/1 1pt EW 5 places

A lot of these mares have either been on the go all season and/or would prefer a sounder surface, but neither of those can be attributed to LILY DU BERLAIS, who although will have to improve drastically on her two efforts in Britain this season, both of those came without her usual hood and given connections won this last season with Brucio, she rates a solid outside contender with the ground no issue.

The daughter of Shirocco won the G2 Mares Bumper at this meeting two years ago and was a nine length second to subsequent Champion Bumper contender Fun Fun Fun in the same contest last season, before running creditably in graded novice hurdles including a nine-length third to Irish Point at Navan.

She was off the track for 332 days before reappearing with an underwhelming 17L second to Sweet Fantasy in a novice at Catterick, but she duly came on for that run when bolting up in an 8k mares maiden hurdle at Ayr next time out, before taking a valuable 26k Mares Final Series handicap contest at Kelso, with stablemate Brucio seven lengths behind in third.

She remains relatively unexposed over hurdles and this slightly longer trip of 2m2f should suit judged on how she finished off her race at Kelso. She has form figures of 122211 in mares company, and the return of the hood is surely a signal of intent.

2:10 Leopardstown – Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (Grade 1) (5yo+) – El Fabiolo 8/1 1pt WIN

While the jury’s still out on both his jumping and his health, the former Arkle winner EL FABIOLO is slightly overlooked in the market compared to stalemate Gaelic Warrior, who has to prove it was merely ring rust after his defeat to Solness last time out.

El Fabiolo is 2/2 here at Leopardstown with including a win in this race last season, and given his record fresh for Mullins reads 12111, with the sole defeat a neck second to Jonbon over hurdles, he has to be considered to outrun his insulting odds.

14:10 Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (Grade 1)

2:45 Leopardstown – O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey Leopardstown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (5yo+) – Riaan 33/1 0.5pt EW

RIAAN was a distant 14-length second behind the now 159 rated Heart Wood in this contest last season and I can’t envisage there being another type like the winner chucked in 23lbs this time around, so perhaps Riaan can take advantage of a 4lbs lower mark and go better this time around. He was still a novice when competing in this contest last season, and while he has been well beaten in both starts this season, he’s been ridden in midfield on both occasions which likely tells you the yards’ plan regarding wanting to win the race, given his wins and other pieces of form have all come from the front.

The yard won this with The Goffer in 2023 who was beaten 31L in his prep run, and they also won it with A Toi Phil in 2017 who was beaten 23L in his prep run, for all that was in G1 company. Given the yard’s record in this race and the fact he looks well handicapped on his form shown in last years renewal, it will come as no surprise should this have been the plan and he can leave his last two runs this season well behind him with first time cheek pieces equipped.
