There’s a superb day’s racing at Fairyhouse on Sunday 1st December and our value tipster Matty Sutcliffe has unearthed two big-priced tips across the afternoon card…
1:35 Fairyhouse Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+) Cast A Spell 100/1 0.5pt EW 3 places
Romeo Coolio looks the rightful favourite in what looks a below par renewal of the Royal Bond. Gordon Elliott has won four of the last six renewals, and Willie Mullins rarely sends his best novices here. With that in mind, it may pay to chance the rank outsider Cast A Spell each way.
I’m under no illusion that she’ll struggle to win this, but she brings recent winning match fitness when impressively lowering the colours of 30/100F Qualimita in a Navan Maiden Hurdle two weeks ago, leaving connections with something to build on.
That mightn’t have appeared a fluke, as she ran a huge race at 200/1 when beaten six lengths in listed company at Thurles last December, finishing two lengths behind one who was second to subsequent G1 Morgiana second Brighterdaysahead next time out, with the second winning twice since in listed/G3 company now rated 133, and the winner now rated 140 having finished third in the Mares Novices’ at Cheltenham.
She’s a chunk to find with the field, but she’s likely to give it a good go from the front and with experience/race fitness on her side, there’s a slim chance she’ll be able to knick a place in third.
2:05 Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase (Grade 1) (4yo+) Stellar Story 14/1 1pt EW 2 places
Albert Bartlett winner Stellar Story returned with a successful chase debut in a tame renewal of the G2 Florida Pearl, and makes a short enough turn around to take his chance in here under Keith Donoghue for a yard who’ve won this five times in the last ten years.
The son of Shantou has to prove he’s as effective over this shorter trip to live up with the yards Firefox, who made a winning chase debut at this distance, but that isn’t out of the question.
Stellar Story showed he had enough toe in the G2 Navan Hurdle when beaten five lengths by subsequent Supreme winner Slate Steel, ahead of Martin Pipe winner Better Days Ahead,
It would be folly to think he’s a slow animal, as he did beat Ile Atlantique in a bumper over 1m7f, and it’s also worth noting that the subsequent Grand National winner I Am Maximus won this last season, beating the subsequent Arkle second Found A Fifty.
He brings graded form figures of 324141, and looks a shade overpriced at 14/1.
